Default how is connection speed capped?

Hi,

I was just wondering at what point the connection speed is determined (eg
512 or 1mb) is it setup at the dslam or whatever at the exchange or are all
connections the same and the speed is just determined by the login?

Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,

ADSL is capped at your local exchange (what is referred to as
jumpering by BT engineers determines what speed you get).

Cable is capped at your router, which has an encrypted file or
something on it which tells the line how fast it should be.

Regards

Josh
