This is just a modem (not a router) that connects to a network, it can only
link to one client on that network. It does not lose its settings, it is
just looking for the computer it is registered with. It forms a virtual
link to the client and passes on the IP address, so the client appears on
the internet. If you wish to change this you have to delete the account in
the modem by using the inbuilt web server, or reseting and re-entering the
account info.

It is best used with a router, and needs to be used with DHCP (modem issues
WAP IP). This has presented some problems with routers. My Buffalo
wireless router was refreshing the WAP IP address every minute or so,
disrupting surfing or downloads, buffalo eventually released new firmware
for it and it has worked well since.

The 300G+ and ADSL nations X-modem are the only pure IP passing modems I
know of, giving proper internet presence and control.
