Default Migrate from IP Stream to Datastream

news
I'm on Pipex 1mb IP Stream ADSL, interested to go to Bulldog's 2mb or
4mb Datastream ADSL.

Which part of the country are you in?

Bulldog's 4MB ADSL service is only available in Central London (using LLU),
while their 2MB services are available at many more exchanges (normally
using DataStream)

I understand the migration charges are about 10 for IP to Datastream,
does anyone have a link for this.

"Migrations" are charged at 11+VAT by BT Wholesale but won't apply in your
case as migrations from IPStream to DataStream are not yet possible.

To qualify for the 11+VAT "migration charge", two things would have to
occur:

1. You have to be moving to the same speed service (512K--512K for
instance)
and
2. Both ISP's have to use the same wholesale service from BT (i.e. BT
IPStream--BT IPStream).

However, wherever possible, Bulldog use BT DataStream (or LLU) - this allows
them to provide much cheaper services like their PrimeTime "time of day"
ones (these are only available on around 650 exchanges on which Bulldog have
BT DataStream or LLU on - not BT IPStream)

Bulldog's 4MB ADSL service is only available on its Central London exchanges
which use LLU.

(As a sidenote: BT are working on IPStream--DataStream "migrations" but
they don't exist yet and the "same speed" limitation may still apply.)

Hence, Bulldog would charge you the 50 + VAT connection charge they are
charged by BT - unless they are running a special offer (like atm with their
Alltime 2000 product - connection just 1 -
http://www.bulldogdsl.com/special_offers.asp)

I remember a lot of people complaining about some sort of problem - Is
Bulldog ok now?

I think it partly depends on what exchange you are on - but I am on a
DataStream exchange and have had no problems in the 9 months or so, I have
been a customer..

LLU customers - well they hardly ever complain about anything and get a
faster upload speed as well.

btw, if you/anyone does decide to use Bulldog would you mind quoting my
referral code when signing up - just quote "bdol 87431" when signing up
online (under "How did you hear about Bulldog?/Referred by a Friend") or by
telephone."

Regards
Sunil

Could anyone please explain in simple terms what the difference
between IPStream and Datastream are please.

I will shortly be signing up to Eclipse's 1Mb home lite and wonder
which of these services will be provided and what the various
atributes of them are?

Would be greatful for any info.

IPStream: BT are responsible for carrying the IP traffic from your exchange
to your ISP. BT manage the IP traffic and contention levels.

DataStream: BT are not responsible for the above and the ISP (or another
telco) manage it..

Most ISP's use IPStream, though DataStream is cheaper to buy from BT as BT
are doing less.

Sunil

Thank you Sunil for such a clear explanation.

Appreciated.
