If you only want to connect a few pc's by wireless you don't necessarily
need a router.

See this:

Try Ebuyer, they have a good selection of units. Offerings from 3Com,
Belkin, Netgear, D-Link and Linksys seem to be popular.

Stick around here and you'll soon work out who are the fans of foes of
each bit of kit!

To be honest D-Link, Netgear and Linksys all have comparable products - best
off just looking out for a good offer. I use a Netgear DG834G myself and its
been great. They are on offer (free card) in the BT Shop

If you are going to go wireless get 54g devices.
Look at getting all the same devices from the same maker, USB, NIC, Router
it will be easier to setup, if you only have one interface to get used to.

Encryption, will keep the bandwidth leechers out, now that broadband
suppliers in the uk are putting limitations on your downloads. The router
if set to DHCP will automatically give an IP address to any computer hooking
up to it. So best to setup the encryption key.

Another problem with "drive by logins" is anything they download can only be
traced to your router, so if the wifi pedo comes visiting, and the internet
police are on the hunt, they will probably be knocking on your door, with a
sledgehammer.

Have a look at this site for wifi help: www.practicallynetworked.com

Best ?
Probably Draytek Vigor 2600G, but this is 'office class', reliable & quality
kit, hence not cheap, but still lot less then Cisco.
You should also consider the 2600VG, with two VoIP ports.
Regards,
Martin
