Default OneTel Broadband Prob

I'm trying to help a friend set up a new computer to the internet, he
has a OneTel broadband connection which works fine on his old machine
but won't connect on his new machine.

I've not been round yet so I don't know exactly what the problem is, but
he's reasonably savvy and has set up the connection to the internet
through a LAN as you normally would.

Is there anything special that needs to be done with OneTel to get the
broadband to work on the new machine ?

Phil,
This shouldn't be a problem. Assuming this is a DSL router and the PC
is connected on ethernet, there could be an ARP table problem. Its a
bit of a long-shot though.

I am thinking if he's not powered down the router and the new PC is on
the network with an IP address the same as the old one, the router could
still be holding an ARP-table entry for the old machine's MAC address.

Quick fix could be to reboot the DSL router and see if that fixes it.

I'm making assumptions here though - let us know the details when you've
had time to have a butcher's yourself.

Cheers,

A.
