Interesting to see a 500 GB limit on an 8 Mbps service. Puts the
figures into perspective for those on the Plus.Net 2 Mbps service!

I wish the 'heavy download' bunch well, whoever they move to (but it
seems unlikely, in the short term, it can be to the UK Online service).

It depends why you want the speed how much caps matter (if you want
really fast downloads but only (say) one CD worth a day then a 30GB per
month cap would be fine). What I would like, though, is higher speed
uploading, and no one does that at a reasonable price.

I wonder what they do with all the stuff they download. Wher the hell
do you put 500GB of downloads every month? Some people have admitted
that they just waste it, they look at only a tiny fraction of it before
they overwrite it.

Not really, because it is a completely different service.

UKOnline are not buying their ADSL connections from BT.

Precisely.

Because they are using LLU, they only have a few exchanges enabled.

I'm well aware that the use of ADSL from UK Online (at least on this 8
Mbps service) uses LLU and isn't bought in from BTW (I have shares in
Easynet and see the reports) but it was from the cap amount where some
on a Plus.Net 2 Mbps account assume it's fine to d/l 200/300/400/500 GB
while UK Online has shifted its limit up to 500 GB (where the possible
max is significantly more than that, *if* one were to manage to run a
connection at that speed all the time...

What I felt was that since UK Online has set a cap of 500 GB on an 8 Mbps
connection, those on Plus.Net would see that even if they wanted it, they
would have no reasonable expectation to get up to the 500 GB level on a 2
Mbps connection (and more important, that a quarter of that - at 125 GB,
would probably be the type of limit UK Online and Easynet might set...
and though Plus.Net has not set very firm amounts, the 100 GB mentioned
isn't really such an unreasonably low limit as some very heavy users may
suggest... ie not sensible on a 2 Mbps service to expect lots more...
