Default Dlink DWL-2000AP+ only shows "Firmware Upgrade" screen

My DWL-2000AP+ has refused to work from the day I opened the box. The
web interface has always shown the 'Firmware Upgrade' screen. So I've
tried two firmware upgrades with the following versions from Dlinks

....but on reboot I still get the 'Firmware Upgrade' screen whenever I
browse to the damn thing at

After a factory reset, running Ethereal Packet Analyser on a PC with
static IP I can see that the firmware downloads OK to the
Access Point at, but after after that, the 2000AP+ is just
broadcasting "DHCP Discover" packets with source IP from/to the
BOOTP ports 68/67. The only way to get anything from it thereafter is
with another Factory Reset.

I couldn't get through to Dlink customer support before Christmas (20
mins on hold each time), so - before I send it back in frustration - is
there anyone here with any suggestions?
