As the title...

Is the monthly limit on just 'downloaded' data, of does it include
'uploaded' data too?

Usually on both, but it does depend on the ISP. Mine only counts
downloaded data.

BT say up/down ounts towards the total - rip-off b**tards. They
introduce new rules to ISP's to make yet more money - so much for
Oftel and the gevernment. We are supposed to be heading for a
multimedia revolution - what do they do, increase speed but impose
stupid limits.

No, you just have to pay more if you want no limits. Use more, pay more.
Seems fair to me.

You seem to be confusing the roles of BT Wholesale and BT Retail.

BT Wholesale has no say or influence in how ISPs choose whether to /
how to cap. That's entirely up to the ISP.

BT Retail, as one of many ISPs that buy from BT Wholesale, has chosen
to cap and also chosen how it will cap.

Ultimately it's the consumer and free market conditions that have
forced many ISPs to introduce caps, not BT Wholesale, Ofcom, nor
anybody else.

Ultimately, financially and enginering-wise logical, all ISP's (what
few of them remain) will charge on the amount of data-bits
(information) uploaded by the subscriber. Plus a fixed line-rental
fee.

The sooner this takes place the better for everybody.

Time scale - depends on how fast ISP's can gobble each other up. At
present they are jockeying for position.

That may or may not be true...

AAISP only count downloaded data. There is no hard and fast rules for
all ISPs.
