Default 2mb leased line throughput

is a 2mb leased line throughput full duplex so you get 2mb up / 2mb down
at saame time or is it if you are using 512k down you only get approx
1.5mb up?

WAN links are normally full duplex, esp. at higher speeds (say over 64
Kbps) - otherwise the turnaround time will massively reduce the overall data
rate.

some links have different bandwidths in the 2 directions - ADSL for one.

a conventional 2 Mbps (e1) line is the underlying bearer for primary rate
ISDN - used for bigger PBX links to the PSTN. Depending on how the link is
formatted you may get 30, 31, or 32 channels of 64 Kbps each, so the
available speed may be a big under or over 2 Mbps. Because it supports the
conventional UK voice network, you can get these lines just about anywhere.

several ISPs support SDSL - this gives a link that is adaptive, with upto
2.3 Mbps - BT actually limit their SDSL connections to 2 Mbps best case -
but longer links to the exchange will have lower data rates
