Default Those 0844 numbers and voip rates

If it is possible to call a UK mobile from a BT phone for 1p / min (with the
5p minimun charge)
via an 0844 dialthrough - and assuming the company doing it is making a
profit - why are the voip rates to UK mobiles
around the 10-15p mark
I would have thought with the lowish overheads involved in running voip
firms they ought to be able to replicate this
rate.

Surely any company that offers cheap calls to mobiles will be the holy grail

Or are landlines fighting back in an indirect sort of way in the same way
you can get upto an hour for 5p on some tariffs
(for the purposes of the discussion cps operators are not included)

What has an 0844 dialthrough company got to do with VoIP..?

False assumption - they will be making a loss on those calls (or
possibily one of their providers is making a loss)

Easy, they're using exorbitant rates on mobile and non-geographic
calls to cover the losses made by offering free geographic calls.
Unless you're Skype, in which case you shaft your locked-in customers
for geographics too.
