Default USB DSL Modem and Routing

A friend of mine has a USB ADSL modem.

If he buys a router is he able to share internet connections or does
the modem have to go in to the router for this to be successful.

He has ethernet connections on his computer.

He could do it, but it would be a bit pointless as he could use the PC as
a router anyway. Better to get a router with an ADSL modem built in.

DSL or ADSL ? -- two different things if adsl go for a cheap connexant
chipset adsl modem router with built in 4 ethernet port + 1 usb port
switched hub.

So ADSL isn't DSL with asymmetric bandwidth allocation?

Given that the modem is already purchased, you connect the modem to one of
your PCs and set it up to act as a NAT router via its ethernet connection.
