Default multiple slimp3 multiple room arrangements

I'm looking at a new install and am thinking about having a slimp3 in
each of three rooms, all attached to the same music server, able to
play the smae music in all three rooms or different music in each
room. I like the slimp3 because of the screen capabilities and perl
scripts which I can write.

Question - how do others do this?
1. rca cable from each slimp3 to a multiroom amp with speaker cables
back up to each room?
2. an amp in each room with each slimp3 attached to its own speakers?
3. amplified/powered speakers
4. other...
