Default Sipdiscount dead?

Hi,

I've been unable to connect to sipdiscount for several days now..
sip1.sipdiscount.com is not responding to pings on any of its IP
addresses.

Since it's the same company/server (finarea) as most of the other
'free' ones is there much point in trying any of the others...
(iax/sip.voipbuster.com are also dead, as are iax/sip.call18866.co.uk)
have the company gone titsup? Or did they just screw up the changeover
from IAX so badly that they never came back up again?

Tony

??? Now I'm really confused. You've definately connected in the last
two weeks? I figured they were just having issues but even a free
service wouldn't normally be down for that long.

I can't see any IP connectivity to their network at all:

It's like they've dropped off the net completely.

I've given up with them and trying voip.co.uk, who seem to be having
issues themselves at the moment (albeit different ones... they're up
but no calls connect).

Interesting Tony...

I get the same Tracert as you (except for the early stuff).. Stops at 15.

But I can assure you I have been making and have just made a call using the
line.

sip1.sipdiscount.com being the server

traceroute and pings failing in this way does not necessarily indicate
that a host/network is down.

no, icmp 0+8 failing indicates either they are having connectivity
issues, under a dos attack, or have stupid/incompetent network
administrators who just block "cause it's bad!". whichever way you look
at it, it's bad.

have never had a problem with them.. Always connected, can have very long
conversations without ever getting cut off

I wasn't acutally meaning sipdiscount, just memories of the million and
one customers who thought blocking icmp was a great idea while working
at $ISPs.

I find that when it stops working I change to sip.sipdiscount.com.

Then, more than likely, that will stop working in a few days, and I
change to sip1.sipdiscount.com. And so on and so on. It's a PIA, but you
get what you pay for.

Interestingly, both hostnames have the same set of ip addresses, so
there should be no reason that one or the other works unless one of
their servers is dead (and the sip device you are using doesn't behave
as per RFC3263) ...
