I am trying to migrate from Tiscali to Plusnet and after a long and
frustrating series of emails and telephone calls, managed to get a MAC code
from Tiscali.

I have started the process by giving this code to Plusnet and I had been
given a migration date of 24 April 2006.

I have just noted a service message on Plusnet that this now needs a CBUK no
and the migration date has been set to 00/00/0000

Does anyone know who is supposed to be getting the CBUK no and why is it
necessary, as I had a valid MAC Code that was used on the day it was issued.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi
"plusnet" are you sure? do you read the forums? many of their customers (yes
they have some left) are complaining bitterly as plusnet appear to be taking
their lines from BTwholesale and puting them with TISCALI LLU without their
permission, should have just stayed where you were.
Plusnet do the same throttling and download management as tiscali.
this may help

Yes, I know, but there is the option to opt out of the migration to Tiscali
LLU, and I will because Tiscali are theiving cheats.

I do read these messages and see that there are comments commending Plusnet
as well as chastising them. I have had dial up account with them for over 5
years and had no problems, I moved AADSL to Tiscali because they had a
budget snail connection at a time when that was all I could afford.

I still have websites at both F9 and Plusnet even when they have received no
income from me in two years, how many ISP's will do that?

Hi
I was in same situation m8, and was with them for years, and feel a certain
nostalgia about +net, but they just arent the same animal as we remember,
they specialise is spin and terms and conditions change on a daily basis. I
hope you are ok there, honest - but I fear you will regret.
best of luck anyway.

Cheers Roy, but I have to be optimistic.

Anyway, I think I can say with some confidence, that nobody could bo worse
than Tiscali.

I call then liars and cheats because when they stopped the 256k connection,
they automaticallyupgraded them to 512k and the cost stayed the same. That
was good but when they reduced the price of the 512k connection last
November, they waited for customers to attempt to upgrade to the same
package to take advantage of the reduced price. They also introduced a new
service of 1Mb at teh same price but existing customers where not allowed to
upgrade to this package. The excuse they give is that they have millions of
customers and its not possible to identify them. Funny that, as they where
able to identify them only 12 months earlier.

One other annoying thing is that I suspect that I am going to have to wait
until tomorrow to contact Tiscali cancellations to get the CBUK code as they
not open on Sundays.

There has been a change in response to the complaints about that handling.

Certainly I'd agree that PN "got it wrong" in how they had been planning to
move up to 20,000 customers onto Tiscali's network, and they have suffered a
deal of bad publicity and complaint from customers. As I see it, they will
be making some savings by moving customers from BTW to LLU. There's a fee
to switch, which is being absorbed by PN/Tiscali I assume. PN sees using
LLU as a way to benefit the customer in the long run:

.... some of the benefits of moving to an LLU network:

- Higher upload speeds for residential customers
- Increased performance at peak times
- Potential for higher speeds much sooner than expected with other suppliers
- Lower prices in the future for LLU customers

However, some people don't want anything to do with Tiscali and after many
comments from customers, some of them already affected, some of them just
worried about being switched to LLU, PN provide a way to opt-out of LLU.

Apart from the "don't like Tiscali" reason for not being moved to LLU, there
is the situation that should someone want to switch to another ISP, it would
probably be easier if they were currently on a BT Wholesale product. Making
the process of switching to/from LLU is something BTW needs to make smoother
and in the longer term (3-6 months?) it should be almost as easy to move the
service to/from LLU and maybe even LLU #1 to/from LLU #2 (since there is now
a higher chance of getting service on LLU than ever before).

Yes, they got it wrong... they

1) decided to move customers without an "opt out"

2) would not wait until the migration process for LLU - BTW is working

3) did not comment about the benefits they saw for customers, longer term
and because of the concerns (/hatred!) of the name "Tiscali" caused a
number of complaints about their handling

but quite quickly they

1) provided an "opt-out" now for anyone feeling certain they won't want LLU

2) will allow an "opt-out" after notifying a customer that their line will
soon be switched to LLU, so the customer can stay on a BTW product
