I find running Bit Torrent tend to crash it quite often. - Have you tried reducing the number of connections allowed? Will try but how do I do that?? Thanks Allison That would depend on which bit torrent software you are using. I think the manuals will probably say. |

Sorry didn't explain to well ~ how do I do this bit "Have you tried reducing the number of connections allowed? As I said it depends on which bit torrent client you are using. There are lots (e.g. azureus). If you post which one then someone will be able to tell you. Otherwise you need to read the manual. |

You sound like someone in the know, do you know the best number of simultaneous connections to set XPSP2's tcpip.sys when using Bit torrent using the hack I found a while back? Peter |

I reduced it in the bit torrent application. I would leave the tcpip.sys alone as it effects more than bit torrent if you change it. |

Which is a good reason to trade up & get something like a Draytek 2600, steady as a rock & that's after finding that the Netgear 834g, the 3Com Office connect, the D-Link 604T & a Linksys which I got rid of the same day so I can't tell you the model, all fell over in their own way whilst running continual P2P sessions. Hell I even procured a Cisco router to give that a go as well, I got that fed up with the problem. Go for the Draytek, it's cheaper than the Cisco, would be my advice Wont be much good for sky broadband, because as of yet, no one has being able to use a non sky router. The method is set out he http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/showt...light=firmware The risks a it could f*ck up your router if you are not very careful (or maybe even if you are very careful), and it puts you in breach of your Sky contract which requires you to use only the Sky router. Presumably the worst that could happen would be a termination of your sky broadband service and a chance to sign up with a more expensive ISP. |

| Hi I am new to this and I think I have sorted the problem with this Sky Netgear DG834GT Router with its constant slow speeds and line drops. I had my BT line enabled on Monday and had been phoning Sky everyday to fix the problem, but everytime they done a line test my line was perfect (1500KBS download and 700KBS upload) but I was downloading files at speeds of 24kbs i.e. a 15MB file took me 30mins to download so I knew there was somthing definitley wrong and so did many of the people on these forums. I was having to constantly reboot my router to fix the problem!!! This is how I sorted the problem: 1) Have you subscribed to 'Sky By Broadband'? If yes, what Sky By Broadband does is it downloads the movies you have requested everytime you go on the internet. You DO NOT have to be logged in to Sky By Broadband to download movies, once you go online it automatically begins downloading the movies at super speeds taking up a lot of your bandwidth. The only way to stop this is by logging into Sky By Broadband and deleting the movies. If you delete the movies directly from your hard drive, Sky By Broadband begins to download them again, so, the only way to actually delete the movies is by logging into the Sky By Broadband software and deleting it from there. 2) Log onto the router and turn off the UPNP. This should fix the problem, but, you will have to configure any Torrent Software you have as well as your antivirus software to accept torrents. I have written the step by step guide for configuring Azureus and my PC-Cillin Anti-virus: a) Open Azureus; b) Click 'Tools' - 'NAT / Firewall Test' and make a note of the incoming TCP Port, in my case and in this example is 51445 c) Log into you router via http://192.168.0.1 USERNAME: admin PASSWORD: sky d) Click 'UPNP' and make a note of what you see, it should look somthing like this Active. Protocol. Int Port. Ext. Port IP Address YES. UDP. 51445. 51445 192.168.0.2 YES. TCP. 51445. 51445 192.168.0.2 If you see nothing click refresh. e) Turn UPNP off f) Click 'Services' and then click 'Add Custom Service' g) Fill it out with these details Service Definition Name: AZUREUS Type: TCP/UDP Start Port: 51445 (basically whatever your Azureus Incoming TCP Port) Finish Port: 51445 (again whatever your Azureus Incoming TCP Port) h) click 'APPLY' i) Now click 'Firewall Rules' j) click 'Add' for the Outbound Services. Service: AZUREUS(TCP/UDP:51445) Action: ALLOW ALWAYS Click 'Apply' k) Now go 'Firewall Rules' - Inbound Services. Service: AZUREUS(TCP/UDP:51445) Action: ALLOW ALWAYS Send to LAN Server: 192.168.0.2 (basically whatever your UPNP IP Address was for Azureus) Click 'Apply' TO CONFIGURE PC-CILLIN: PC-cillin 2005 Users 1) Go to Network Security - Personal Firewall and highlight your connection (denoted with a green dot) 2) Select the Edit - Exception list tab. 3) Click Add and enter a description; e.g., "Azureus". 4) Click "Specified Application" and enter the path to javaw.exe (Azureus v2.3.0.4) or azureus.exe (v2.3.0.6 and newer). 5) For connection, select "Incoming"; for Action, select "Allow." 6) On protocol select TCP. 7) Select Specified Ports and type the port number you wish to use in the box (please also view why you should consider changing the 6881 standard port) 8) Ensure IP setting is on All IP Addresses. 9) Press OK to return to Personal Firewall Profile window, and press OK on this window as well 10) Press Apply. 11) Now in the Azureus window go to Tools - NAT/Firewall test and hit the Test button you should get TESTING PORT XXXXX ...OK! 12) Repeat the above steps, but on protocol select UDP. OK, so it downloads at full pelt, but surely if you know this you can add a new movie at night and let it download overnight, rather than add in the morning and "suffer" low speeds. Once the movie is on your PC/box (sorry, don't have Sky services so don't know which thing actually holds the downloaded movies) then it will not be a regular problem, as it won't be downloaded again and again, will it? |

| NoNeedToKnow Thanks for your comments. The point I was trying to make, was to make people suffering poor bandwidth speeds aware that it might be because of the Sky By Broadband service(downloading in the background) that is causing the slow speeds. I was not advising as to the best times to download as you are right, obviousley, the best time to download large files (movies) is during the night. The other point you made; "Once the movie is on your PC/box (sorry, don't have Sky services so don't know which thing actually holds the downloaded movies) then it will not be a regular problem, as it won't be downloaded again and again, will it?" Movies are downloaded to where you specify, for example I have speceified my Sky By Broadband to download onto my Desktop. I then cut and paste the movies to wherever. Once the Sky By Broadband can no longer detect the movies on my desktop, it begins downloading them again, which is why I said the only way to actually delete a movie request to Sky By Broadband is by logging into the software and deleting it from there.
