Default Waiting for broadband becuase of 'capacity' issue...

Hi All

I've recently moved house, and signed up with Pipex as my broadband
provider some three weeks ago. However, my broadband order is at a
standstill because my local exchange (Chudleigh in Devon) has a
'capacity' problem. I have been told variously that this means that I
am in a queue waiting for connections to become free (eg other people
moving house), or that I am in a queue waiting for enough people to
want a broadband connection to warrant BT Wholesale to add extra
capacity.

I can see that both scenarios are possible, but since this is a BT
Wholesale issue nobody at Pipex can tell me whether I will have to wait
days, weeks or even months!

Can anyone give me a clue as to how to find out more about how long I
might have to wait and whether it's possible to influence BT
Wholesale to add more capacity? The frustrating thing is that the new
house is only about 50 yards from the exchange so if broadband ever
gets connected I should get a decent speed.

Thanks!

Cheers - Graham

Pipex won't be able to tell you because they probably don't know. You
are basically asking them how long before someone in your area decided
to cancel their broadband, or how many orders and waiting for this
exchange from any of the ISPs in the country.

Can anyone give me a clue as to how to find out more about how long I

Probably you will just have to wait until BTw either get capacity due to
cancellations, or enough pending orders to warrant installing more capacity.

Basically, what Pipex said.

Thanks!

Thanks for responses folks - confirms what I had thought ie that there
is nothing to be done except come home each night and eagerly hope for
an extra green light. How sad...

http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php.../adsllinecheck

says "26-50 spare ADSL ports"

no idea if this is up to date, or their definition of "spare".

From http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php...adsllinecheck:

"Real time check : Yes "

Can they really check in real time I wonder?
