As they are selling so cheap compared with other outlets these from
Sipgate must have something wrong or different about them .

Jumping to conclusions again ?
Quite likely they got a job lot on the cheap, as I said, probably not a good
seller or maybe end of line,
but neither means that "must have something wrong with them ".

I look forward to a review from someone who's bought one, quite tempted.
The battery life quoted is a bit worrying though, being used to a Nokia
6310i which lasts for weeks on standby..!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, we have 3 of these at home.
We've had them for over a year and, yes, there are a few limitations.
That said, I do feel that they are quite good value for money - as
they suit our particular use...... My comments are based on the T-
Mobile TC300, a rebadged version of this phone, but one of ours has
the Pirelli firmware installed.

Limitations include:
1) Crap batteries and battery life. Two of the three we have were
bough second hand (as nearly new) off eBay and the batteries on those
2 handsets are diabolical... 4-6 hours on standby with only half an
hours talktime. New batteries can be had for about 20 Euros off ebay.
With a "good" battery, ti needs recharging after 2 days on standby.
These battery issues aren't really a problem for us as they sit in
their charging cradle when not in use. As the phones have to maintain
GSM and WLAN/SIP registration I suppose this adds to battery
consumption. If set to just GSM or WLAN batteries last a bit longer.
2) Wifi coverage around our house is not as good as the 2 pairs of
cordless Dect phones we also use, ie we can use the Dects in some
rooms where the TC300s struggle to hold the signal.
3) You can set up 5 WLAN profiles on the phone, which is good, but you
can only have a 2 SIP profiles. One SIP profile is set to be used in
conjunction with the Sinus TC 300 base station and the other 4 WLAN
profiles tie in with another SIP profile. The solution to this is to
change the firmware to one that allows 5 WLAN profiles AND 5 SIP
profiles (one tied into each WALN profile). This firmware can be found
somewhere on the http://www.ip-phone-forum.de site. I can't find the
forum thread which talks about it now, though I did save the page.
Anyone who wants a copy, email me. One of our phones (mine!) has this
firmware and works fine. It's useful as the default is to our home
Asterisk box when I'm at home and to voipstunt when using friends
WLANs. Oh, a word on upgrading the firmware.... do it at YOUR OWN RISK
- I have found that having done this I can no longer access the phone
via PC USB software to downgrade....

These three points are definite limitations, but as I say, for our
particular use, not a problem - particularly when you consider I paid
less than €100 for the three with 2 base stations. The first was a €49
new with a base station and the other 2 cost €50 total thru ebay, one
of which also came with a base station.

I did say something wrong or DIFFERENT Martin and no matter who is
selling a product many people have found that when a product being
sold at two thirds cheaper than from other sellers there is something
a miss.
I nearly bought one of these phones quite a few months ago now but
bought a UT Starcom instead mainly because I could drive over to the
supplier and buy and use it the same day and not have to wonder when
I would receive delivery or IF .
Jumping to conclusions again ?

Wrong again I have found that throughout my life (which has been a
long one so far) that not trusting companies and suppliers as saved me
quite a lot of money over the years .
