Unless you live on the Isle of Wight, in Cumbria or Hull your cable

Wouldn't be able to, John Major made sure each area is licensed to one
cable operator, and now there is only Virgin

This is privatised monopoly Britain, not a free capitalist democracy

There's been no freedom since Thatcher.

There's bugger all industry left either (she wasn't much of a fan of
that either). Remenber all the talk of the 'service industry ? Except
much of that is in India or the Phillipines now.

Most of that has happened under Blair & Brown . . .

Huh? I think you're rewriting history somewhat. Remind me - when were
the sell off and close down of the mines, sell-off and closedown of
steel industry, sell-off and closedown of british leyland, sell off and
closedown of the ship industry ?

It happened when we had a PM with the guts to accept we were no longer
competitive in these industries and needed to move on. America has yet to
learn that lesson.

There are 3 types of people in this world. Those who can count, and those
who can't.

Thatcher.

Remember ? She said the 'service industry' is the future. Shame most of it is in
India and the Phillipines now. And our industry in in China and Korea.

Party Politicians ! They should be shot, the lot of them. No, too kind. Hung,
drawn and quartered, the lot of them.

Lots of industries would still be alive and kicking where it not for
the extremely greedy British workforce always wanting more and more
money and the unions SPIT backing them up. Like you say the PM of the
day had the guts and determination to stand up to the damned unions
just a pity she did not manage to kill the lot of em of once and for
all . Had she managed to do so we may just have had the service from
the Royal Mail that we where brought up to know and respect, mail
through the door by 7.30 am not 3PM and later, a post office within
easy reach of all without having to take a bus ride to get to one etc
etc .
Not to worry Jeff from what you have said above it seems that at least
we have had the pleasure of knowing what it was like to have lived
through a time when Britain was Great Britain and not the Labor
infested wreck of a country that this government has turned it into
today .

I don't see the hundreds of other postal/delivery companies jumping in
to fill the gap in the market vacated by the Royal Mail Delivery before
10pm usually costs £5+ with the competitors. Most, if not all, the
alternative letter or small packet services find it cheaper to let the
Royal Mail to walk the last mile rather than doing it themselves..
