Default Demon billing

On 1 November I received a bill from Demon for an ADSL service.
Nett 19.57
VAT at 17.5% 3.42
Total 22.99
.... fair comment.

The most recent bill, dated 1 December reads:

Nett 19.57
VAT at 15% 3.42
Total 22.99

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Perhaps I should report them to the VAT fraud office ???

If you actually signed up for a VAT-inclusive price, it's perfectly
legit. That's if it's just the bill that breaks it down.

Forget my last post. I hadn't realised the enormity of their error! I
must remember it's hard to overestimate the cluelessness of Demon.

At least one ISP had the decency to discuss the whole thing with their
customers. Having made the point they *could* trouser the extra for
those who bought the VAT inclusive product they then did the decent and
reduced the inclusive price.

I rang Demon accounts and they immediately refunded the difference,

I'm amazed you got through!

I'm VAT registered so its neither here nor there for me - I will reclaim the
VAT they charged and show the invoice to the VAT people if they ask!

I doubt if the VAT people would care. I knew one company that used to
charge VAT on books because it was easier than itemising an invoice
and it didn't matter as their customers were companies that could
reclaim it anyway. AFAIK they got away with it. They did say that if
you insisted they would redo the invoice.

Plusnet announced very quickly that they will be passing on the VAT
reduction.

What makes it even more ironic is that before branched out and became
the first UK consumer ISP, Demon was a software house specialising in
accountancy software.
