I saw 2 clients fail at 11:44: Both near Glasgow.
01560 and 01389 area codes, different ISPs.

Surprised that Wee Eck has not jumped at the opportunity to have a go at
BRITISH Telecom!

I had a call from a friend on Skye about 11:35 to ask if I had lost my
broadband, it was OK at the time but went at 11:40h.

I waited before trying to report and spent 20 minutes in the queue on the
0800 number then asked a whole series of questions and checks before they
went to check my line, it came back soon afterwards but must have been a
coincidence.

It made me wonder why they cannot switch to an automated system to report
faults when there is a major fault affecting a wide area. All that is
needed is confirm telephone number (or enter a different number) and press a
single digit for "Broadband lost completely". They could very quickly get a
picture of the areas affected.

The friend on Skye got his back about the same time as me but had a few
short losses after that.

I had a look at the hub's Event Log whilst the broadband was off, it was
showing quite a few disturbances during the night.

One can't help but wonder what's going on. Rock solid broadband for several
years and then two major outages in a week. Cyber attack?

One can't help but wonder what's going on. Rock solid broadband for several
years and then two major outages in a week. Cyber attack?

Tim

Would they tell us it was the results of a cyber attack?

Don't forget Ireland, it's affecting customers there too!

Also NE England, although now back up after a couple of hours or so.

From IDNET

Incident Headline: : EDINBURGH : LOSS OF SERVICE

snip

That list of dialling codes isn't exhaustive. The last service status
post we made can be seen here -
http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1288796032.htm

We've also got a tool that parses the updates from BT (like the one
IDNET posted). That can be found here -
http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

You have better access than I do :-) You bloody well SHOULD of course. :-)

snip

BTs engineers, working with specialists from BTs network equipment
vendor, are proactively monitoring both the network and systems
stability of the affected node. In parallel, plans are being developed
to implement total resilience to this environment.

Sounds a bit like BP and their bijou oil well drama-ette. 'A mere drop
in the ocean' ;-)

I don't suppose there is any chance of BT waking up to the fact that
broadband is all about intensely boring properly engineered wire in
cabinets, kit in racks, and proper quality control, rather than a sad
sick soap about a middle aged divorcee shagging a bloke ten years younger..?

"Adam: I lost the ****ing baby. I went into labour and neither the phone
nor the ****ing broadband worked, and I'd left me mobile off charge
after all those ads about calls being more human from a fixed line
telephone"

;-)
