Default BSkyB buys O2 and BE broadband businesses from Telefonica

British Sky Broadcasting is buying the UK broadband and fixed line
businesses of Spain's Telefonica.

It will give Sky half a million customers who use the O2 and BE brands
for their home phone or broadband.

It will pay an initial 180m to Telefonica, with up to another 20m
being paid once the customers have been switched to Sky.

Sky said the transaction would make it the second biggest UK broadband
provider.

Will they continue with the BE product offering, or is the plan to
migrate everyone over to a vaguely similar (but potentially inferior)
Sky product?

eg. Sky don't offer static IP, but I have a BE product with static IP. I
wouldn't be able to use an ISP unless they offered static IP (it was one
of the main reasons I chose BE).

You might be lucky. Sky might do similar to BT when they bought Plusnet
- i.e. leave it alone.
On the other hand, they might well do a Talk-Talk, i.e. assimilate
Tiscali customers into their clutches.
Only time will tell...

Out of the frying pan and into the fire...

Well that answers the question posed in the other thread:
"when they switch to Sky".
Sorry, O2 and BE customers...
:-(
