Its so simple - just dig a small ditch, put fiber and use fully
automated fusion splicers to join cables.

Every town and village can do this to ditch BT (British Telecum) offcum
and openroach and start posting their videos to tell government
and local authorities that that changes are needed and that they
are being lied to by BT Offcum Openroach about the true costs of
installing fiber to all of UK.

Indeed all the fiber companies have already told the chancellor
not to hand out the 1.5 beeeliion it is giving to BT because
the money is not needed - just need to remove offcum and its
regulations that no other country has by any stretch of a mile -
all put in place to look after the 14 beellion pension hole of a
private cumpany BT sneaking its reps into regulators oriffices
and forcing all other market player from owning fiber infrastructure
illegally. Currently British Telecum has 1 million 10gbit fiber
links while no one else in UK has any.

They are an illegal private enterprise that has hooked itself into
bent officialdom and forcibly excluding fiber companies and their
representatives from transforming the telecom market.

They doing all this to feed a 14 beeelllioon pension hole.
Hard cases make bad law - which summarises all of offcum's
illegal activities so far.
So it is that regulators are pandering to
private cumpany BT to pile surcharge after surcharge in a dysfunctional
telecom market

Really good job.

Bucket much wider than required to lay cable (even fifty years ago my local electricity board used an ~10cm bucket to trench for cable).

Dug when too dry, so sides fall in.

Did not encounter any other utilities underground - very lucky! - even the pro's regularly strike gas, 6kV electric, other comms, water, drains etc.

Not back filled with aggregate as now required. Done by hand not using the dozer on the front of their mini digger.

Great health and safety (not) apart from the digger operator from the UAE. Chap on steps on top of a porch was a classic.

No doubt voluntary labour and cutting corners kept the cost down, but we have a digger, a driver, a fibre blowing machine (BT's apparently).

Unclear why so many fibres seemed to be blown, when just a few would do.

Looks as if they are running over private land, surely they will to
cross public roads somewhere? I can't imagine the highways authority
allowing such poor work.

When I worked in the US, that would have nearly been an imprisonable
offence. Despite what somebody here said, workplace H&S rules in the US
are extremely strong. Weirdly, they don't seem to apply to house
construction. The work shown here would qualify as workplace, so would
be subject to the more without being tied off is one of the forbidden
actions.
