everything went smoothly until the 20th June. His Be Box lost connection
and has been the same ever since. Basically when you switch the box on
it goes through the normal start-up sequence and after a minute or so
the dsl and internet lights become stable. After about 5 seconds both
lights go out and the box goes through the same cycle over and over
again, flashing lights, 5 seconds stable and then back to the start.

He reported the problem to Be on the 23rd June and thay have done test
after test. They have confirmed that his line stats are fine and that he
should be achieving download speeds of around 6meg. They have replaced
the "bridge" at the exchange but that made no difference. They told him
to try a different dsl lead which he did, again no difference. They then
told him to try and get an alternative modem / router to see if that
will hold onto the connection; don't know why they won't just send him
one out! Last night they told him to leave his modem connected to the BT
linebox as they were going to run a 24 hour check, this finishes around
7pm this evening.

Anyway, he has managed to get hold of another modem and we are going to
try it this evening after their 24 hour check finishes. My question is:

Will any adsl modem pick up Be's signal and show as connected without
changing any settings, or will we have to connect it to the pc and phone
Be to get their settings first?

As a cable user I have very little knowledge of all things adsl.

Customer Port Tweaking

Eclipse have launched a new packet of ADSL services whereby customers

Due to these personnel changes, the original Telewest, now Virgin,
cable TV and broadband equipment has been shunted from one room to
another. At this stage, cable TV not working and single PC cannot
access Internet via LAN cable to Surfboard 5101 modem.

All the modem lights are green and steady except the "PC activity"
one, which is orange and flickering constantly.
During each attempt to connect, Windows Network Connections shows an
initial "Connected" message which then soon falls back to "Limited
Connectivity..." Windows Firewall is off.

The ipconfig command doesn't show the:

"Connection-specific DNS suffix . : surfboard.com"

as manual suggests but is blank.

Any advice on where to begin please?
Would it be better to circumvent the individual troubleshooting
processess and get Virgin to come in and sort the TV and cabling out?
Is their customer entitled to have a Virgin engineer attend to this
without incurring significant cost?
Hi group.

I am trying to set up a Speedtouch 585(v6) router through the web interface
(192.168.1.254}.

I need to change the default login address to give better security but
cannot find a way to do it.

During "Easy Setup" it asks for an alternative Username & Password, but when
I enter these & it finishes configuring, it sends me back to the login page.
Entering the new Username & Password (or the default) does not let me back
in & means doing a hard reset.

Also, (inToolbox>User Management), I have tried setting up a Password for
the default login address with the same results as above. Also tried setting
up a New User, but trying to set that as the Default login gives the same
result.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Ordered sky bb, due to go live tomorrow Fri 4th July
Got a Sagem router

My son originally ordered sky TV in his name so the username, password
the account to be changed into my name (sky's instructions)

Can I change the username/password/email address now, or will I have
the wait for sky to do that?, I seem to remember reading that the
username & password are hard-wired into the router

Installation
Do I have to use the sky CD?
