Barrie
I'm setting up a wireless network and wondered if it would be advisable to
change the default IP address of the LAN? It is currently 192.168.0.1.
Would it make it anymore difficult accessing the system, from an hacking
point of view if I use an alternative IP address for the LAN?
Secondly, if a network is running without WEP (or any other encryption), is
it possible for someone in range of...

jonathansmith1962
I need to set up a wireless network to my new office in the extension.
Cables are not an option.
At the minute I have 2 PCs, one broadband connection (tiscali - usb
modem) and one printer in my house, connected by crossover cable and
all works well.
I'm moving both PCs and the printer to the office in the extension
which will not have a phone line.

| | Administrator rights to play game? by
bigbrian
I've just installed a game on my daughter's PC (The Sims), and it
seems you have to have Administrator rights on the system to *play*
the game, not just to install it.
Is there any way around this? I don't want her account to be an
Administrator account, and I don't really want to have to log her in
as me just to play it

Hi ALL,
Is WPA-PSK easy to set up? and is it also known as CCX? My wireless card is
supposed to support WPA, but in the options it just says WEP and CCX.
Any advice appreciated

I have an old Dell Latitude laptop (circa 1997) running Win 98. It has a
couple of PCMCIA slots (one containing a dial-up modem, the other an

Everything works fine, albeit a little slowly by today's standards.
I recently decided to upgrade the machine to wireless. I bought a US
Robotics 802.11g Wireless Turbo PCMCIA card, but unfortunately the Dell

Hi.
My flatmate has a router and PCI wireless network card which he uses to
connect to the Internet. In order to save costs, I have also bought a PCI
network card and am sharing his Internet connection.
My question is, how can I be certain that he can't see anything on my PC
from his PC? Is there anything I can do to ensure that nothing of mine can
be accessed by him, even though we both...

when i tried to connect to a share i only got the option to connect as guest

i was using the admin acount on both PCs and the passwords were identical.
enabling the guest account and giving it a password made no difference.
