question re wireless network + bridge by Gaz
I have a wireless network (3com office adsl router), two wired devices and one wireless. I am wanting to add two further devices to the network, both devices are next to each other, but to far away from the router for a wired connection. The devices do not have the internal capacity for wireless (xbox and modified tivo), and as such will need a 'bridge' (as i understand it) to get onto the...

Hardware Internet Sharing by NickC
Hi there, Homechoice is driving me insane. The problem I am having is that I have only one IP address to connect to the Internet with. The setup at the moment is as follows: Adsl modem (provided by Homechoice) connected to telephone socket at one end, and to router via ethernet. The router then connects the other pcs in the house.

The Definitive Chord & Scale Bible - Literally EVERY chord and scale! by Kind of Blue28
Finally it exists!! IF YOU PLAY GUITAR, YOU NEED THIS BOOK!! Listen to my story: In the process of teaching myself guitar, I went looking for a book that simply had the all the chords, scales and modes, and nothing else. I was totally surprised to find that such a book didn't exist. There are plenty of places to find this information, but it tends to be spread out over the coarse of a...

Network configuration with proxy server by Martin Underwood
A customer has asked me to set up a home network for him, to use a proxy server (he has the PC that will act as the server and the W2K server software). Some of the PCs will need to access his work network via VPN, authenticated by SecureID (using the little keyfob devices that generate a unique time-varying authentication ID). Can I check the configuration that he's...

UPS recomendations by Andrew Hodgson
Hi all, I want to get a UPS to protect a set of machines running on a home network. I have eight plugs that I currently use, a couple of these could be unprotected (i.e, go off safely with a power cut). It would be nice to have the machines shut down cleanly, there are two especially I want this for, one running Linux and one running W2k3. It would also be nice to see remotely the health of...

Parental Protection by Simon Woods

Adding second Access Point to LAN stops PC booting help! by Tony
I wonder if anyone can help me with this one, I really am at a loss as to why this is happening... I have a DG834G MKII ADSL Wireless/Modem/Router which is working fine, but due to a requirement to increase wireless coverage, I have added another wireless access point onto the LAN, (a DLink DWL-900AP+). Problem is, when I boot up my main PC (which is connected to the LAN via wireless, via the...

Load sharing on network by Clive
I have a fairly high end home built Server, 5 disk (SCSI) raid, UPS, Dual PSU, etc, etc. It basically runs all my home automation stuff, ranging from alarms, to heating, as well as acting as mail, print and file server. What I would like to do is build another identical system as a backup - in case of Motherboard, SCSI backplane failure, etc; and have it 'ready' on the Network.

Video streaming across small home network - easy to do? by Chunky
I have a live video stream from a wireless camera which I would like to have available across my small home network. It is a (wireless but not wifi) baby-cam which has infra-red night vision and the base unit gives an RCA + stereo audio, instead of being tied to a single TV I thought it would be good to be able to split the signal and stream the feed to the PC's / laptop on my home network....

Laptop wireless card that supports NT4 by Martin Underwood
Do any manufacturers make a PCMCIA wireless card or a USB wireless access point that has drivers for NT4? A quick check on the DLink, Netgear and Belkin sites shows that the currently-available cards only support 98, Win 2K and Win XP. A customer wants to set up a wireless network that includes a laptop that has NT4 installed. If I can't get a wireless card / USB access point that supports...

Making sense of DNS and Dynamic DNS? by Tony
I would just like to ask a question on the use of DNS, and my likelihood of being able to make use of the service if I signed up... Let me put you in the picture. I have had a .com domian now for a few years, and although I have been offered DNS Management as an optional extra on my domain, I have never signed up to it. The problem is, I don't realy know if it would be of any use to me. I...
