| | Re-flashing Sky (netgear 834) Routers.. by
Tim..
I think there was a thread some weeks ago about turning the
firmware-butchered Sky badged 834GT back into a regular Netgear DG834GT ??
Was it just a case of doing the normal Netgear flash with the current
firmware or are there any Gotchas??
TIA

| | wgr614v7 router and dm111 adsl2+ modem both netgear by
Neil Morris
Dear All
I have the above gear, and while I can connect to the internet via the
adsl2+ modem when I try via the router I can't. I have read that the
adsl2+ modem I am using doesn't support 'NAT'. What I need to do is set
the router as DHCP and disable the modems DHCP (by selecting the full
brdige rfc option) comments and suggestions wellcome

| | [OT] Weird - please excuse test post by
Angus Rodgers
I've been trying for hours to follow up a post in another thread.
An earlier attempt to start a new thread also failed. Yet, test
posts to scot.test, rec.puzzles.crosswords, uk.telecom.broadband
all succeeded. Obviously I must be doing something very stupid!
But what?

| | Linksys NAS200 by
Russell
I have one of these devices and all the reviews say that they get around 3
MB per second transfer which they say is still slow. However I cant get
anymore that 1MB per second transfer. All my PC's have GB ethernet and my
router 10/100MB. The network is connected through 85MB power socket ethernet
plugs.
Can anyone suggest why I am getting such an awful speed
Thanks

| | (Newbie:) ADSL OK; XP laptop OK; Win98SE sees LAN, but not Internet by
Angus Rodgers
One final (I hope!) newbie question:
Today, I started trying to set up my new LAN and ADSL connection,
using a Netgear router*. Mostly, it's going OK. To my surprise,
my daughter's WinXP laptop is fully visible on the LAN, for the
first time (unlike the times I tried to connect it to my Win98SE
desktop using a crossover cable). Both my Win98SE machines also
continue to be visible on the LAN...

| | Wireless Modem/Router for Virgin broadband by
gambool
I have Virgin broadband. As I need a new wireless router, I thought
it would be nice to reduce the number of cables/plugs and get a
combined modem/router. Although the virginmedia website list a few
ASDL modem/routers, it is unclear if they will work on my current (ex
NTL) connection.
Can someone please clarify?
Many thanks,

| | Dual-WAN Routers by
Anthony R. Gold
Has anyone experience or recommendations for a dual-WAN router? I've read
some pretty horrendous reviews on Netgear and Edimax. Not seen anything
either good or bad on Draytek Vigor. My needs are pretty basic - want to
run a couple of simple servers unattended with fail-over between two WAN
access lines. Load balancing would be nice but fail-over is primary need.
If the WANs have dynamically...

| | av out to ethernet by
Russell
Does anyone know if there is a device which can take the input from the AV
video output cables from a video device such as a DVD recorder and convert
the signal to ethernet so I can route the video signal to another part of my
house through the ethernet power adaptors?
Thanks

| | new router video by
Trevor Wright
My Belkin wireless ADSL router packed up and I bought a new one, the
same model. It connects fine, and reports a slightly higher down speed
(eg 1216) than the old one; but I notice that streaming video (eg
Youtube) and downloadable video (from education sites) (that's not a
euphemism) is much slower - stop/start, buffering all over the place,
etc.
This is on the main, first computer, to...

My dilemna is that I want the router in another room, not directly

How do I go about doing this? I have a wireless adapter to use on the
desktop and also I have (but not installed) a Belkin wireless PCI card

| | D-Link in Repeater Mode? by
Barrie
If I install a second D-Link DWL2000AP and set it up as a repeater, can I
take a netowk cable from the back of the repeater and access the net at this
point? I suppose what Im asking is, as well as it being a repeater, can it
be used to supply internet to a fixed PC with a LAN cable?
Thanks

| | Ethernet over mains Elect by
Andy Castledine
Has anyone used the devices that plug into a 13A mains socket and provide an
ethernet connection. i.e.plug one into a lounge socket connected to a
computer and one in a socket ajacent to the broadband router connected into
a spare ethernet port.
Do they work ?
Can you easily move them around ?
Can you switch them off when not in use and know they're going to work
when turned back on?

| | Dlink x2 as access points? by
Barrie
Hi,
I currently have one DWL2000AP installed and working as an access point, but
would like to introduce a second one to the system that would be linked via
wireless only to give internet access to a computer at the same location as
the second AP, plus to hopefully extend coverage of wireless access around
the remote loation. Is this posible and how can it be done?
Thanks a lot.
