| | Network Installation Course? by
Treefrog
Hi,
Can anybody advise me on the nest place to learn about network installation
in Lancashire/Preston area.
I don't need to know about the software side of it, I'm a programmer by
profession, but I need to learn about the actual CAT5 installation, conduit
routing and crimping the plugs etc.
Finally, is any sort of formal qualification required to install networks
(hardware) for businesses?
My...

| | WiFi/ADSL connection by
JZ
I'm another person with a problem with my ADSL/Wireless connection! I
haven't yet found any relevant answers on Google so here's my
question...
I've been trying to set up someone's new ADSL connection so that it
works on multiple computers (all WinXP). The ISP is OneTel. OneTel
supplied a modem which is connected to the computer via USB (the only
option - no LAN direct from the modem). I...

| | Remote Access by
Chris
I have a ADSL router modem at home, I have a couple of PC's hooked up to
this with IP address of 192.168.9.10 (W2K) & 192.168.9.11 (XP), how can I
access both of these systems from work or elsewhere?
I've been told I could use VNC or Remote Desktop but how I configure this,
advise or links would be great.

My Netlimiter 1.30 isn't recording any stats for the most programs.
Some like Teamspeak and Teamspeak server only show stats for upload
but not for download.
Any ideas how to get this to work since this would be a very important
feature for me

| | Recommended PCMCIA wireless card for Windows 98 by
Stroller
Hihi,
I've set up quite a few wireless networks now and am really happy with
configuring ADSL modem-routers & connecting to them under Windows XP (I
prefer SP2) and Mac OS X. I prefer Netgear kit where possible, as I
really like the web-interface on their routers & I like to use WLAN
cards from the same manufacturer when I can.
However I seem to be having some problems with the WG511 card...

you. I have got a working network, but my router is unable to connect to
the modem. This happened before and somebody...

| | WEP Encryption - Connecting by
Geoff Lane
I've got a small problem logging on to my home network since I have
enabled WEP.
At the moment I have four WiFi connections, two laptops running XP
Home, a handheld running PocketPC2003 and a TV connection (Netgem)
which I understand uses a Linux OS.
Since I decided to tighten up my security and enable WEP I've had the
problem with one laptop;

| | Firewall problem I think by
M Jones
Hi all,
I have 2 machines running WinXP and Win98SE. The 2 machines are networked
together with Actiontec wireless LAN cards running in AdHoc mode. The XP
machine is connected via ADSL to the net.
I recently reinstalled Windows XP after my HD died on me. I've decided to
use the SP2 firewall instead of my old Mcafee one. However I have a
problem. The XP machine can browse files on the...

| | Using VNC through router - OT(ish) by
Steve O
Hi group.
I've just started having a dabble with TightVNC and I can see how this is
the answer to a maidens prayer when I get called by mates. (Being the one
who knows 'a little bit about computers'). Well I do only know a little bit,
and virtually nothing about the black art of networking.
Anyway, it's a little OT but here goes:
TightVNC works great here at home, I can connect to a machine at...

spamfrog
Got the wireless network going using no encryption. Accesses my router to
change to WPA and got this error:
Privacy type is set to WPA. Multiple SSID support will be disabled.
When I click OK it deletes the PSK string I have entered thus invalidating

| | Cant use ICS by
Aosmosis
Hi had 2 PC's that were setup using a crossover cable.
ICS worked fine, no problems.
I then built another computer. This PC has the ADSL PCI modem, and connects
to the router by a patch cable.
Another PC also connects to the router by a patch cable. All the lights
indicate there are no problems with the cable itself.
When I turned both PCs on, they couldnt see each other. I delved into the...

I wanted to move my ADSL router further away from my computer, but wanted to
amalgamate the Telco cable and the Ethernet 8 way cable, by inserting a
splitter between the wall socket and the router and the other end. All the
cables in the Ethernet cable are not used, there are 4 spare ones. 1
twisted pair up, 1 twisted pair down, but I want to know if there would be
interference between the...

| | Netgear v BT v Belkin by
Bobby
My local PC World sells a Belkin modem/router, a BT modem/router (Voyager
2100) and a Netgear modem/router. Is any one of these better than the other?
The Netgear is slightly cheaper (but not much) and it claims to support
"ADSL 2" whatever that is.
Cheers.
