| | Wireless Media - what else by
Geoff Lane
Might not be the correct newsgroup but networking folk are very worldly
wise.
Naturally I know of networking WiFi, DECT phones transmit signals, there are
video transmitters, I know low voltages are being transmitted to enable
Access Points to be mounted away from power supplies so I am wondering what
else can be transmitted without wires.

In that case, it should almost certainly work fine.
Ensure any PCI cards that you use have antennas that can be seperated
out a bit from the card, on a short bit of cable.
Otherwise, you can run into problems with the PCs shielding the
signal.
I'd say this is your best...

| | Need help finding a low cost hardware firewall device by
Mark Hobley
I am sharing part of my network with a third party.
The third party is connected to my hub, which allows access to the
internet.
We are connected externally via a Netgear broadband router.
I am looking for a low cost hardware firewall device which will enable
me to prevent unauthorized traffic between my half of the network and
the third party, which is on my side of the router.

Stormsinger
Hi
I've been trying to set up a simple network at a friend's house.
His basic setup is a desktop, and a laptop, both running XPHome.
I've manually set the IP addresses as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2, both with subnet
mask 255.255.255.0. Both machines have the same workgroup, and both have file sharing
enabled. They are connected via a crossover cable.
