| | WEP Security.. or lack of? by
Jim
Does anyone have any correct figures for how long it would take to break
into a 128bit WEP encrypted network?
I know everyone says that WEP is not secure, but I guess not many things are
secure if enough time is taken to crack it.
So does anyone have any idea how many hours, days or weeks on average that
would need to be spent to gain access?
How much knowledge would be needed to break the...

| | Netgear WG602v2 oddity by
bof
On the Wireless Settings page of my Netgear WG602v2's web control panel
the Channel/Frequency line has no drop down list to select from, ISTR
setting the channel when I first got the unit, and the WAP is set to
ch8, which is not the default.
Anyone tell me if there should be a drop down here, or where the channel
setting selection is to be found?

Bill Godfrey
Hello.
I've got a fairly ordinary 192.168.0.0/24 network at home, consisting of a
netgear NAT+firewall box and one or two computers. (Both running win98)
A friend of mine (in a far off land) has one computer which connects to the
internet without NAT but has a firewall that blocks incoming traffic.
I'd like this friend to be able to send and receive traffic in my home
network without the...

| | Network card by
Chumana
Having just had a look at one of my old PC's I want to add into a network,
it says it has a "dial-up adapter" installed, presumably onboard the MB.
Would this be sufficient to connect to an ADSL router, to share broadband
internet and file-sharing access, via an RJ45, or do I still need a 10/100
Ethernet card?
Cheers!

| | xbox & usb modem help by
Bill Larcombe
Hello all
A friend wants to use her Xbox with a Tiscali ADSL connection and I was
already to just order a Ethernet router (wireless isn't a requirement as the
PC & xbox will be in the same room). However, her modem is a USB model so a
direct connection isn't possible how do I get round this, any USB to
Ethernet adaptors anyone can recommend?
TIA

| | No wireless connection, what am I doing wrong? by
Tony
In desperation I am posting this.....
I am running a Netgear DG834G wireless router/modem with the latest firmware
1.05.00 and a wireless PCMCIA card (US Robotics 802.11g), which up until
recently has been working fine.
I then decided to add a little security to my network and enable 128bit WEP
(yes I know its been cracked, but its better than nothing I suppose)
I also was advised (rightly or...

I posted the original message (below) some hours ago, but now I think I
might have
found a bug in the latest version of Netgear DG834G. The problem described
below was never noticed before I upgraded the router to 1.05.00 and I would
like
someone with a similar setup to confirm whether or not I'm right.....
Please read the following message, I posted earlier regarding the problem.

My cable internet connection is currently going into my XP PC - how do I set

Seeing as my Belkin wireless router seems to have given up the ghost (see

Budget is tight as I wasn't expecting to have to spend on this. I want to
look at 54g models to given me an upgrade path and I'll need 3-4 RJ45s. ADSL
routing is still being taken care of my existing...
