I'm having an extension and a stretch of Cat 5 put round the outside of the house. Is it possible to have the network jack and phone jack in the same surface mount box?

beginner's questions on network install by Rob
Hi there, I have a few beginner's questions and wondered if anyone could help. Feel free to point out any glaring errors in my plans. I want to network up my house. I'm planning of having 10 network points around the house. So I think I am right in saying that I need to buy 10 RJ45 front plates, and each front plate requires its own back box?

Slightly OT - remote connection by Steve O
Hi group. Now that I have a static IP, could someone point me towards a site showing how I can connect to my PC from another machine elsewhere? It's connected via a router on my home network if that makes a difference. Google doesn't seem to understand my question :-( Cheers Steve

Ethernet over telephone extension reel? by Bill Godfrey
Hello uchn-lings everywhere. I've got a 20 meter cat5/rj45 cable which I use to run to my patio. (So I can't leave it outside.) When I gather it up or wind it out, it often gets tangled up. From my V90 days, I have a rather nice telephone extension reel (much like this one http://www.homestead.co.uk/extel.htm ) Because it winds up and is self contained, I'd much rather use this one.

Netgear DG834 firewall setup. by Bill Godfrey
(Hi all. I had posted this to alt.internet.providers.uk, but was advised this would be a better group to post. I tried googling but I can't find any mention of this problem.) Network Problems Ok, I have two PCs running on Windows XP linked directly with a crossover cable by two Ethernet cards. Until recently the network was fine, internet connection sharing was working great, files could be transferred, everything. Then things just stopped working. Nothing had been changed in the setup. What happens now is that Windows XP, on both PCs, says 'A network cable...

Problems with WAG54G or WUSB54G by Andy Pandy
I have both the above products from Linksys. The WAG54G being the modem/router, the WUSB54G being the 54G USB network adapter. Lately I've started getting problems where the connection drops quite frequently and when I look at the task bar icon for the adapter connection, it seems to have dropped down to showing 2mb/s. This seems to be random and I've been trying to pin it down to a number...
