| | How to network a Sinclair Spectrum and a PC? by
Pablo Rena
Do you think it's possible to connect an ultra-modern system like the
Sinclair Spectrum to such a vintage system like a 3.3 Ghz PC ?
Can the PC read the data from the ultra-modern microdrive cartridges
or is the PC too old for such modern devices?
Please help!

| | Wireless access points by
pooley@here.com
Hi
If I have a wireless router downstairs in my house and a room upstairs
with three PCs in it, what is the best way to link them?
I don't need wireless PCI cards in each of them because they are all
in close proximity, I'm happy to cable them up.
Do I need a wireless access point in the room upstairs? Do these have
standard cable ports on them that I could hook up all three computers
to?

Hi all,

| | Networking Two routers with Static Public IPs by
QuickFix
I've just switched to Freedom2Surf after escaping the claws of NTL. I
decided to get myself an extra 4 IP numbers so I could have an educational
play about with some servers I've been configuring.
I've setup my network using a Zoom X3 (5660) 1 Port ADSL Router, connected
to a Netgear 6 Port Hub. Connected to that hub is a debian linux server and
a LinkSys WRT56G Wireless 4 Port Broadband Router...

| | Networking without broadband. by
Michael Morris
I am waiting for my broadband to be installed.
In the meantime I have aquired my wireless router and network cards.
All products from Netgear.
My question is: Can I install the router and network cards without being
connected to broadband. Can I install the products so that each compuer can
see the other via the router and then, when broadband is activated, just
plug it in and away we go.

I have an SMC 2655W wireless access point on my network. I connect from my
laptop through the access point, then a hub to an XP PC running ICS.
Everything seems fine, I can get my email and access web pages from the
laptop no problem.
However, when I try and access secure pages (such as for online banking) the
pages time out. If I hardwire the laptop to the hub, I can access secure
pages no...

There was a slight intermittent problem that occurred sometimes when the 2nd

Ian
Hello,
Not sure if this is the best newsgroup for this, hopefully someone can help
me though. I have a small network (10 PC's) which I want to connect to an
ADSL line that I have. Currently I have a Netgear switch but want to get an
ADSL router so that I can connect all PCs' to the internet without having to
use a proxy server/ICS.
I have been told that a D-Link DSL-504T is a pretty good router...

Folks,
I have just upgraded my home office network from ISDN to ADSL.
My "old" 3Com OfffceConnect ISDN router had a built-in DNS server. It knew
about the host names on the local LAN and resolved the lcoal host names
correctly.
I have replaced it with a 3Com "ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router". The 4

Just bought myself a second hand Lucent CellPipe 20a-GX-UK DSL Router, but
can't get in to configure it as it's password protected. Didn't get any
manuals, cables, power supply, etc, but managed to hook it up well enough to

I can use the terminal connection, and can watch it perform its POST, try
and connect to a DSL line (which isn't connected), then prompt me for a

| | SENSELESS SLAUGHTER The case against the cull. THe RSPB led ruddy duck cull. by

The RSPB were the ones who conned the country into thinking the
extermination of the entire UK ruddy duck population was necessary. We
were have been led up the garden path and it seems the RSPB, who
slaughter millions of animals each year, can be dismissed as tabletop
conservationists. It would seem the real goal is to make money and
lots of it. The RSPB is now a multimillion pound big business...

We've got a couple of laptops on a wired home network at the moment
using a conventional ADSL modem router. Both the laptops have a built in

Would I be right in thinking that I just need a wireless ADSL
modem/router? I was looking at the Belkin modem/router shown here :-...
