| | Bandwidth control in Windows XP and P2P apps by
FSAA
I have a small network with the Internet link shared using Windows XP's ICS
and a switch. Lately some users started using P2P apps and before you know
it all the bandwidth to the Internet has been taken up. Banning P2P and have
some form of use policy is not an option due to "office politics"
I wish to archive one of the following two with minimal budget:
1. Use packet filter on the ICS gateway...

| | Going Wireless? by
Neil
Hi all,
I have just got hold of a Dell Poweredge 2300 server and was going to
install it in the attic to control my home network of 2 desktop pcs and 2
laptops. I have one desktop and one laptop downstairs and one each upstairs.
Rather than start lifting floorboards, drilling holes etc I was wondering if
wireless would be an effective alternative to the yards and yards of wiring.
If I install a...

Aim: To wirelessly connect laptop to my PC and to share the dialup
internet connection of the PC. I need a good range and would like a
speed of 54 or 108.
I know I have to get a PCMCIA wireless card for the laptop but I'm a bit
unclear about the rest of it.
Could someone please comment on these options:
Option 1: 10/100 PCI NETWORK CARD in PC connected using ethernet

| | Vigor 2600W - Output Power by
Jim
Just a quick query on behalf of a friend...
He recently bought a Vigor 2600W router and appears to be having a few
problems getting it to work in certain places around his home.
Does anyone know if the Vigor2600W has any way of adjusting the power out,
ie range of the wireless output, or does it run flat out all the time? I
have several access points and I can adjust them to output various...

I finished the XP Home install on the Acer and tried to use it on my

I plugged in a Cardbus 10/100 Ethernet card and that connected to my

Grant
Hi,
This one has really got me stumped. A friend asked me to troubleshoot their
old Windows 98 PC that would not browse the web.
The machine uses a dial up connection via a 56k modem and once connected can
ping and tracert IP addresses on the internet. The problem is that it won't
resolve DNS names.
Neither Outlook Express, Internet Explorer or command line utilities seem to
