IP address question by Arty Flinders
Hi folks, there are 2 computers in the house here, connected to ther Internet by phone line using an external ADSL modem/router. All seems to be working fine with this setup. Now I want to extend the local network a little by connecting over the Internet to my son's computer across town. We're hoping to try moving files between sites by FTP and maybe later by VPN. My ISP has provided me with a...

3Com 11g Router / Card Dropping Connection by BenO
I recently purchased a 3Com Office Connect Wireless 11g ADSL Modem/Router which came bundled with a card. I've got the card installed in a Laptop with WinXP Pro, and it works fine most of the time but sometimes the connection just drops for no reason and I have to do one of two things and then it works fine. Remove Card from Laptop (usually fixes problem - but not always) Reset Router

AOL DSL Broadband - USB wireless router ? by uj
Hi all, I want to upgrade my parents from dial-up AOL to broadband via ADSL. I believe AOL's ADSL is delivered to an ADSL modem that then provides a USB connection to a PC - is there a wireless router that can accept a USB input ? Or is it as simple as ditching the modem that AOL supply and using something more "normal" - Linksys, Netgear etc ? Any issues with AOL doing things in a...

:( not a happy chappy by Britman
OK I finally got my new notebook today. So I got out my Belkin wireless router and fitted it. PC and notebook are both using the net. Excellent I think, then I decide that sharing folder between them would be nice (both wired at the moment, notebook will become wireless v.soon) But can i get them to talk to each other. Tried the wizard thing but to no avail. Both machines are on XP home. Any...

Wireless printing by C Tate
I have a laptop (Samsung x10) with a centrino processor - ie built in wireless technology. I also have an HP inkjet printer. Ideally I would like to stick the printer in the wardrobe or high on a shelf and be able to print wirelessly. Can anybody tell me in an 'idiot speak', step-by-step way how to achieve this?! Thanks in advance.

Wireless network needs cables? by Rick Burton
I'm a newbie, taking my first steps in setting up a wireless Internet network in my house. I've just bought a Belkin F5D7630-4A ADSL modem/router and I'm confused before I've even set it up! The manual talks about connecting the modem/router to the host PC with the supplied Ethernet (I think) cable in order to set up the system. My problem is that my PC doesn't have an Ethernet port. I know that...

"Andrew Welham" wrote in message ... Looks like Netgear have decided to imagine that the firmware release for the DG384(g) version 1.04.00 never existed. As from April 7th only version 1.03.x and 1.04.01 are now on the web site. V1.04.01 is downloadable...

US Robotics 8000-02 Broadband Router Firmware Upgrade by Richard Dungan
Hi, all. My apologies for the cross-posting. I have a US Robotics 8000-02 broadband router, I think also identified as a USR018000A. This has been absolutely rock-solid since I bought it. I recently succumbed to the temptation, for a good reason, to upgrade the firmware from V2.5 to V2.7. There does not seem to have been a V2.6.

Networking XP - Two W98SE by Jock
I have a functioning network with one XP and two Windows 98SE machines. It's rather slow, but works. The XP machine has broadband Internet and I've ticked all the right boxes to have it share the Internet with the other two. It did for a day, then stopped working and nothing I can do will make it work again. Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?

1. ADSL Modem/Router, 2. NTL by Joshua Phillips
Couple of questions that hopefully someone can answer for me: 1. Will a ADSL Modem (Wireless) Router (e.g. SMC7404WBRA) act as a router with no modem connection present - i.e. want to install one now to network pc's together and then hook up to ADSL when available in the area. 2. NTL - cable broadband - is the setup of NTL cable broadband the same as Telewest - i.e. broadband piped down coax...

DLink NIC poor network performance by Jon Myatt
Hi all I've a DLink DXE530TX NIC in this PC. If I set its speed to 100FDX it runs like a dog. If I let it auto-negotiate, it's faster, but still not up to what I'd expect. The LEDs are lit on both the switch and the card which suggest that it should be running at 100FDX, but the throughput is lousy compared to (say) the 3Com 3C940 in one of the other PCs. Does anyone else here have any...

Windows & Printers by Mothball Joe
Hi all, I have a standalone XP box with a printer physically attached. I installed drivers as an Administrator, and the machine is used day to day by restricted users who're unable to change the printer settings. This I understand and it works. However, on my small network, I have a network printer at IP 192.168.0.220, it's a Konica.
