PCMCIA Wireless Connection Problems by Paul
I have an old Toshiba LapTop - a Satellite 220CS running Windows 98SE - and I'm having problems installing a wireless adapter. I have tried a Belkin and today a NetGear with the same results. The software loads ok and the card is found by the software when inserted and loads the drivers, but a few seconds later when the wireless connection is made (when the lights light up on the card - one...

Private Network Address And DHCP by Paul
I am using a windows peer-to-peer network with workstations assigned ip addresses using DHCP. However, occasionally the workstations have a 'private network address' when i look under the network connections box. When they have a private network address they are unable to access any other workstations on the network. How can i stop this from happening and what is it?

Laptop accessing more than one network by Andrew Sayers
Hi I'd like to be able to use my laptop, running WinXP home, to access both my home network and the one at the (small) school where I teach. I can get it to access either (both with internet), but when I change from one to the other I need to go into the TCP/IP properties and change the DNS server order to get it to work. I suspect this really has very little to do with the server order,...

Two Network Questions by La di da Limey
Hi, I need some advice re. my home network. I am having a loft conversion built and want to have 2-3 points where computers can plug into the internet simultaneously. I currently have a router (Netgear FM114P). Do I need to run seperate connections to each point from the router or is there a way of doing it in a loop, i.e. in series? Secondly, due to the increased size of the house, certain...

Anyone tried out a Belkin F5D7630? by Paul Gardiner
I'm thinking of buying the Belkin all-in-one ADSL modem and WiFi unit, but I can't find any reviews. The other possibility is the Netgear DG834G, but I've heard of a few problems with that. The Belkin model has WPA encryption too.

Hi I'm trying to access my laptop from a PC upstairs. The laptop is hooked up to a linksys wireless access point and the PC has a wireless linksys card installed. The PC (upstairs) on XP Pro is finding the access point as I'm getting a very strong reading but when I open Network places the only folders that are showing are the PC (upstairs)XP Pro shared folders. The PC (upstairs) is a dual boot...

Broadband router - some advice please. by Calum Sinclair
Hi folks, Was just looking for a small piece of advice. Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable Broadband router. It is required simply for sharing my BB connection between two PC's? A wireless option would also be considered if anyone knows of a competitively priced one out there.

Wireless signal strength by David W Allen
I have a very simple set-up with a desktop acting as the ICS server plus a laptop, both systems running WinXP. I have placed the WAP in a part of the house where the signal strength on the laptop is either good or very good wherever I wish to use it. Without any alterations to either system, the signal strength has dropped to 'low' and access to the desktop and the internet no...

Constant traffic on WAN RX by Paddy McGinty
I seem to have a constant albeit small amount of traffic on the WAN link of my router to my home network. While I have been able to identify this, and can monitor the amount of traffic coming in, I have not been able to fathom out how to identify where that traffic is coming from. I'm using a netgear RP114 and XP Pro if that makes any difference? Hope someone can help?

I have 3 pc's networked. All running ME. Two are hardwired to a Linksys Wireless G router, the third uses a Linksys wireless card. The Wireless PC displays the shared folders in Network Places and can access those folders. However,...
