How stop wireless laptop hijacking the internet connection? by G.Landon
Hi guys. The new NetGear router installed fairly easily on the PC (connected via ethernet) and I was then using the internet immediately! Then the wireless laptop was switched on and it indicated it had found the wireless connection automatically (without me having done anything) and I was able to access the internet immediately - although in "unsecure mode" (if that means anything to you -...

Tight VNC with non static IP by M Jones
Hi all, I use Tight VNC occasionally to connect to my home PC from work. My ADSL is not a static type so I have to keep checking what my IP address is every time I know I will want access to my machine from work. Does anybody know of a way I can keep track of what my machine IP address is without resorting to checking my router? I know one day without planning in advance I may want...

Recommend good reliable basic router? by G.Landon
You guys were great about six months ago when I had just spent two whole weeks trying to get a router working with my desktop and laptop. But now, unfortunately, the router has died. It's not the adaptor. It's definitely the router. Damned nuisance. This time I don't want to buy a factory refurb which doesn't come with an installation disc and documentation, because that'll only give me...

Elementary newbie question by Ted
This is probably a completely inane question. I want to connect my pc to the internet through a cable connected linksys wrt160n and then occasionally use a laptop with a wireless connection to the internet via the linksys when the pc is switched off. When the laptop is off and the only connection to the internet is through the pc cable connected linksys, is the linksys still broadcasting?

A 'little' ad-hoc problem - HELP! by GPG
I have two wireless modem routers. One is a Belkinn "ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router", and the other is a Linksys "Wireless-G ADSL Gateway WAG54GS with Speedbooster". Both work perfectly well :-). However, my wife has a "Vista home premium" machine, in her office upstairs. A "Belkin G USB Network Adapter" worked fine to keep her conneceted to our home network and, more importantly, to the...

Cheapish fibre - copper ethernet media converters? by Sam
Does anyone have any recommendations for cheapish fibre(or fiber) media converters and where one could buy a pair? They only have to bridge 100Mbit over about 25 meters between houses along a wall, so perhaps no ducting (only internal-external multimode?) will be necessary. If anyone has done something similar please let me know - I'm new to fibre. I know that ethernet would initially be a lot...
