| | Does a ISDN Lan Modem require a separate firewall? by
Adam Lipscombe
Folks,
Currently I connect my home office LAN to Freeserve via ICS and BT Home
Highway. The ICS host machine has a ZoneAlarm firewall to protect the
network.
But I find ICS a bit flaky - usually its OK but can go AWOL leaving the
client machines unable to connect. This happens often enough to make it a
problem.

I am having the same problems on my home network and on another one which I
set up for a mate.
The two systems are exactly the same.
i.e. Two computers, both running XP - at home XP Pro - at my mate's XP Home.
Computers are connected by ethernet cards and crossover cables.
I set up the internet connections on the Host computers. They work OK in
both cases. Mine is BT Openworld with the Alcatel...

We want to look in to a VPN for members unable to attend.

| | Sharing an Internet Connection Using Wirless Technology by
Derek
A friend is trying to set up a wireless network at home consisting of 2 pc's
running XP Home. He really only wants to share his broadband connection.
He's asked me to take a look at it but I although I've set up plenty of
wired networks and configured routers etc, I've no experience of Wireless
set-ups.
What is the basic equipment needed. Can it be done with the equivalent of 2

DrizzlyBritman
I seem to remeber BY saying you could install BB by yourself for £12.50.
All you have to do is connect your cat5e cable to the port in your set
top box and the other to your PC, then phone them up and they will
activate the built in modem in yout STB.
Anyone have any more info on this?

| | Networking 3 home machines, (Me, XP and XP) by
Matt
Hi, I have a Win Me machine - to which I am looking to add a 10/100 Ethernet
card.
I also have a machine running Win XP Home Edition, with a fitted 10/100
card.
I plan to buy a laptop PC, (without any form of card although presumably I
can buy a PCMCIA network card??).
My questions are :
Can I network these three machines and share resources ?

I'm looking for some help / info on the following:
I'm stuck with dial-up connection as Broadband isn't available in my area
(UK) and doesn't look likely in the very near future.
I want to network my Desktop PC with my daughters Desktop PC so we can both
access the internet at the same time. I realise it will be slow but am
prepared to put up with it until Broadband arrives.
I thought it was...

I might be being 'Mr Thicky' here but does DHCP need enabling on

To date I've used static IPs but as I'm now messing around with WiFi I
am changing IP addresses and confusing myself.
When I've gone for the 'auto function' on the TCP/IP setting the card
appears to get a 169.254.x.x address.
I know most people tend to go for the 192.168.x.x addresses but I also

Leigh Bentley
I have recently purchased a wireless LAN access point to connect to my ADSL

Someone else in the building must have their own wireless LAN, which
appears on the list of wireless networks detected by Windows XP.
Is it possible to reconfigure my wireless LAN card to not look for other
