Does a ISDN Lan Modem require a separate firewall? by Adam Lipscombe
Folks, Currently I connect my home office LAN to Freeserve via ICS and BT Home Highway. The ICS host machine has a ZoneAlarm firewall to protect the network. But I find ICS a bit flaky - usually its OK but can go AWOL leaving the client machines unable to connect. This happens often enough to make it a problem.

ICS problems -twice by Will Light
I am having the same problems on my home network and on another one which I set up for a mate. The two systems are exactly the same. i.e. Two computers, both running XP - at home XP Pro - at my mate's XP Home. Computers are connected by ethernet cards and crossover cables. I set up the internet connections on the Host computers. They work OK in both cases. Mine is BT Openworld with the Alcatel...

The computer club I attend has a wired and wireless network set up on club nights. We have a dial up modem connection and share internet and files on our local network. Our server is a Linux machine which serves a variation of Operating Systems including ME, XP, RiscOS and PocketPC. We want to look in to a VPN for members unable to attend.

Sharing an Internet Connection Using Wirless Technology by Derek
A friend is trying to set up a wireless network at home consisting of 2 pc's running XP Home. He really only wants to share his broadband connection. He's asked me to take a look at it but I although I've set up plenty of wired networks and configured routers etc, I've no experience of Wireless set-ups. What is the basic equipment needed. Can it be done with the equivalent of 2 NIC Ethernet...

Blueyonder self install? by DrizzlyBritman
I seem to remeber BY saying you could install BB by yourself for £12.50. All you have to do is connect your cat5e cable to the port in your set top box and the other to your PC, then phone them up and they will activate the built in modem in yout STB. Anyone have any more info on this?

Dial up Networking by Steven Campbell
I'm looking for some help / info on the following: I'm stuck with dial-up connection as Broadband isn't available in my area (UK) and doesn't look likely in the very near future. I want to network my Desktop PC with my daughters Desktop PC so we can both access the internet at the same time. I realise it will be slow but am prepared to put up with it until Broadband arrives. I thought it was...

XP and DHCP by Geoff Lane
I might be being 'Mr Thicky' here but does DHCP need enabling on Windows XP To date I've used static IPs but as I'm now messing around with WiFi I am changing IP addresses and confusing myself. When I've gone for the 'auto function' on the TCP/IP setting the card appears to get a 169.254.x.x address. I know most people tend to go for the 192.168.x.x addresses but I also

Can I remove a Wireless LAN from Available Networks with XP Home by Leigh Bentley
I have recently purchased a wireless LAN access point to connect to my ADSL line using 802.11b (11Mb) wireless LAN card in my Windows XP Home Edition laptop. Someone else in the building must have their own wireless LAN, which appears on the list of wireless networks detected by Windows XP. Is it possible to reconfigure my wireless LAN card to not look for other available networks? I'm only...

I had a network setup between my PC and laptop successfulyy until I put in a new motherboard (with integrated LAN) into the PC. Now when I run the setup wizard I get a connection, the icons in the system tray show a connection and I can surf the net from the laptop through the PC. I can't however see anything from one computer to the other, nothing in network places, nothing found on "search for...

My workplace hosts a VPN and I have the following query :- 1. My laptop operates correctly on the VPN when connected directly to the phone line and my Freeserve dial-up account. 2. When I access the VPN via ICS (with my home PC acting as the server connected to the same Freeserve account), I am able to connect to the VPN and have my password validated but I cannot access the MS Exchange Server...

Dlink DWL-G650 - Annoying blinking lights - is it just me? by Trust No One®
Just took the plunge into wireless using Dlink Gear. I'm using a Dlink DWL-G650 card in my laptop. There are 2 green lights on the card which blink constantly during operation at around 1 second intervals when connected to a network. If the card does not pick up a network then the lights go into a strobe pattern. These blinking lights during normal operation are driving me POTTY! They are very...
