Netgear Incorrect MAC addresses by Geoff Lane
Anyone experienced Netgear products reporting incorrect MAC addresses. I'm on my second Netgear PC card WG511, the first had to be returned as it would not connect and was reporting varying MAC addresses. The replacement is working OK but I'm now getting the incorrect MAC addresses reported again. I ran XP's Network Diagnostics and it reported my card as follows;

computer networks becoming more critical to businesses than ever before? by CRM
Hi, I have a point on which I have been thinking on for sometime - Will the advances in computer technology, and the growing importance of the Internet in commercial transactions, have resulted in computer networks becoming more critical to businesses than ever before? Sometime back, I read a whitepaper in www.techieindex.com also on this, which was quite informative. I would appreciate if...

Move to client server - Linux or Microsoft by Steve Sinclair
Hi - I've used the feedback and advice etc. from this newsgroup to help me get a hybrid P2P Microsoft network up and running with W2K and XP Pro machines. It's been going for a while now and all OK. Just for the sake of it I'm thinking of trying a client-server set up but couldn't justify the cost for MS server licences. I haven't investigated the costs for Linux software to run as the server....

Can I use BNC cable for RJ45? Can I extend BNC cable? by Anon
Hi, I have an existing BNC cable hard-wired into my apartment but find BNC a constant nightmare to diagnose faults on. I also have a new Sony Vaio which has a built-in RJ45 socket, which would be nice to use instead of a separate BNC PCI card. Can I use the BNC cable and modify the plugs at each end to work with RJ45 network cards? As a separate question, I need a bit more length on the BNC...

Is there such a thing as a USB to ethernet adaptor? by Gary Glencross
I've been given a present of a D-Link wireless router. I already have a network of 2 PCs and wanted to add my laptop wirelessly. I have a broadband USB modem though, and the new wireless router only has a WAN port for connection of an ethernet modem. How do I get round this? Can I buy some kind of simple adaptor which changes my USB plug into an ethernet one?

belkin 54g + 3com 11g WAP woes by Blues Punk
I recently bought a 3com OfficeConnect 11g WAP and a Belkin 54g PCI card, both supposedly supporting the 802.11g standard. Well I've had a lots of "fun" trying to get them to talk to each other in anything other 802.11b. I've updated every conceivable driver and firmware, been through every single setting I can find about a dozen times, both with and without Belkin Tech Support on the line. ...

Newbie Networking site required by Steven Campbell
Could someone point me in the right direction of an informative web site for a newbie. I was hoping to network my PC with my Daughter's via a wireless network but don't think it will work due to the distance between them. (ground floor to loft. Is there anyway to test this rather than buy the gear to find out it doesn't work?) So I have opted for cable but haven't a clue where to start i.e....
