| | Pinging by
Dr Teeth
I have discovered that I cannot ping from my main PC, but I can with
the others on my network.
Pinging with both the URL and IP address fails with a destination
unreachable message (for www.bbc.co.uk for e.g.). Tracert also fails,
but it worked last night.
My HOSTS file is empty.
Any ideas what is going on?

Lots, but only a couple relevant here... Group policy springs to mind,
you can set up a logoff message IIRC but you can also remove the logoff
button and give them only shutdown, restart and cancel if you so wish.
Careful with GPs though, very careful. It's easy to lock...

Having a bit of a problem trying to access one of my two homebased PC's via

| | Low power file server for home network by
adamomitcheney@kiwis.co.uk
Hi All,
Forgive me if I'm in the wrong place, but I'd like some advice on
putting together a file server for a home network. The intention is
that this will be an always-on, lightweight (in terms of
functionality), robust repository for all types of media: music and
photos primarily, but I'm thinking about something reasonably future-
proof so I guess it should be capable of video streaming.
Due...

linq936@hotmail.com
Hi,
I am to order QWest DSL and construct home network, I have 2 laptop
computers at home and I want the network to be wireless.
I was thinking I need to buy DSL modem for DSL interface and a
wireless router for the whole home wireless coverage.
But I just realize that actually I can just use one wireless DSL
modem, that should do the job, right? Maybe a seperate router have

| | Wireless Laptop loses some settings by
Allan
My laptop integrated Ethernet port having given up the ghost, I've resorted
to using wireless. On XP, all is OK, generally, but on Linux, OpenSuse
10.2, it's been a battle.
I'm using ndiswrapper 1.43, and eventually got the cardbus Linksys wpc54g
working, although not 100% OK. Then I tried a couple of usb devices. The
easiest to install was a Belkin F5D7050A. Each can be made to...

Kroma
I've just bought a D-link DP-301P+ parallel print server.
Everything seems to work fine with my HP 970cxi printer except for two
things:
1) The ink statistics will not show - I'm not too bothered about this.
2) When any of the PCs on my network are first turned on and print to the
printer (which is still 'off'), the printer refuses to power up. If then
powered up by hand, it prints some...

I have just set up a wireless network at home between my desktop and laptop.
Using a D-link adsl2+router (DSLG6424T). Everything is working as it should

on detail.
I have change the default login password from admin to something else (this
is for access to the router via a web browser 192.168.1.1), changed the SSID
