My guess is that it's because i'm using CAT5, but my home network
throughout, will only connect to a gigabit switch at 100Mbps, not 1000.
The NIC's are certainly gigabit capable, and the network 'flies' at
100Mbps.

Hi
Trying to sort out a problem on a HP laptop.
Router is a Wireless Belkin 1001UK which is working 100%
The laptop will not connect to the internet. Wireless networks
connection dialogue box reports the connection requires a network key
(wpa) but also shows the connection 'Connected'. Pressing the disconnect
button results in the connection searching for a network, finding the

Just started using wifi for the first time and im using my laptop a lot in
my bedroom to stream and watch divx and dvd vobs/ifos. Im using standard xp

Trouble is its stuttery every so often on divx/xvid and constantly with

My Acer Aspire 3003 laptop works fine when connected using the inbuilt
Ethernet port for all applications including FTP uploads using SmartFTP or a
an FTP program built into some application software I have. When I fit a
Netgear WG511T Cardbus card this works fine for browsing and email. However,
if I try to use an FTP program such as Smart instead of the Ethernet card
neither of the FTP programs...

| | Wireless router for NTL by
Cyberdog
Hi,
Someone has asked me to recommend a wireless router to be used with one laptop
via an NTL cable connection. She went to Curry's and they told her that she
would also have to purchase security software to stop other people from using
her connection. I was under the impression that ALL routers came equipped with
WEP/WPA encryption as standard. I would appreciate clarification on this, and
some...

| | Dozy Netgear config question by
Dave J.
I've just been lent a netgear DG834 to play with, but through haste to
configure it as a temporary replacement for the router I usually use for
secondary nat (quickest way to try it out) I am at a total loss over how
to persuade it to change LAN IP/subnet.
I try to tell it that I require it to live at (say) 10.96.98.10
255.255.255.0 and the javascript autoresponse (which actually I think...

Jeff Gaines
I have an IBM R50e laptop which has an Intel 2200 b/g Wi Fi chip-set.
When I turn it in (or come out of standby/hibernation) it takes an age to
connect to my Netgear WAP. Net Stumbler picks up the signal straightaway
but I have to open the Intel Wi Fi manager app, turn it off nd on, select
a profile and reset its parameters and after 5 minutes or so I get
connected. Once its connected it...

Hi Group,
I'm very interested in this type of networking, basically it solves all my
problems at once. I've tried wireless at home and though I've had some
success, it's too unreliable. It is surprising given that my house was
constructed quite recently, but I guess Wi-fi was not on the developers'
minds!
Basically there is a range of products which I think gives me the best of
both worlds,...

I have a wifi network in my house, all computers have an IP assigned by the
router 192.168.1.x etc etc.
I would like to connect 2 of the computers together via ethernet so they can
transfer files faster. So I've connected Computer A(PC) to computer B(Mac)
with a cross over cable.
The mac gets assigned 169.254.128.236, the pc gets assigned 169.254.170.29.
So when I'm on the mac I can now...

| | belkin f5d7330 wireless bridge problem by
Mike Scott
Belkin have just sent me a new one of these to replace an old one with
dubious firmware. But I feel as though I've just jumped from frying pan
to fire.....
The problem I see is that the unit doesn't seem to have its own wlan mac
address - it appears to just copy one (maybe the first seen) from the
lan. The effect is that provided the box is connected by a wire, it can
be accessed; as soon...

| | High Gain Antenna - do they work? by
Tom Bradbury
I've got a Netgear DG834GT wireless router down stairs but PCs are upstairs
on other side of house. Connection between PC and router is not very good.
Thinking of fitting a 7dB high gain antenna (various ones on market, haven't
yet decided which one). Before I slip out my credit card, just want to know
if this is a worthwhile investment. Moving the router is not an option, nor
is moving...

Jon Jagger
I have a Belkin Wireless G Router working fine. I've installed Windows
XP + Service Patch 2 on a PC and when I plug the USB antenna it's
asking for the Belkin CD - which I cannot find :-(
I've rumaged around on the Belkin website but can only see stuff for
the router itself.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi,
a friend of mine asked me what router should she get. She uses BT as ISP and
needs it to be wireless. She had dlink and it started going crazy on her
changing values on its own etc. Long time ago I got a 3 com and it's working
really well except that it doesn't like Mac's. She just needs a router, that
won't hang and has wireless connection. And ideas what should I suggest her
to get...
