WiMAX by Tim Cogher
Hi all, I have just finished writing up the End of Course Assignment for my course with the O.U. (T209 if anyone's interested). The major subject of the assignment was WiMAX. Has anyone any practical experience with this technology? Reception speed, Reception quality? I'm not after anything I can use for my course, that's finished and sent, i'm just curious.

Piggy-backing a PC onto a network by Nel
I have a 2 PC wireless network set up at home. I'm forever fixing other people's computers and was sick of unplugging all my cables from the upstairs one to connect to the other machine when installing etc. So I bought a KVM switch to give me a spare set of cables and this system works a treat. However, I thought while I was doing this, I may as well use my PC's internet connection to...

Hi, Running a simple wired / wireless network at home, and was all running fine until had a power cut and machines had to be re-booted. Had set up file / printer sharing from main pc. From other pc I can only access the main pc via IP address and file sharing. I cannot access the main pc via its name or connect to the shared printer - and all this worked fine before the power cut. Trying to configure Netgear WN511B by Craig Cockburn
Hi Does anyone know how to configure the above? I've configured the modem/router and all seems to be fine there. I've installed the software at the remote end for the laptop card, then inserted the laptop card and completed installation but can't go any further. When I click on the configure icon on the desktop nothing appears and I can't enter any settings. Basically the smart wizard won't...

More Issues with Demon Broadband by CJB
Jeeze - this stuff is complicated - and I've been in i.t. for years. I now have the BT line up and running on ADSL. Demon have sent me a Speedtouch 330 modem which works OK. It is a USB modem which is a pain 'cos I only have two USB ports on the laptop and I need those for peripherals. However I can now connect to the Internet - albeit a bit slow. The laptop also has an Internet port (I think)...

Query re notebook adaptors by Craig Cockburn
Hi I've just bought one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-DG834N-RangeMax-Wireless-Router/dp/B000G3 JTV2/ and Amazon were doing a deal that the router can come with a free adapter for a laptop. I might get a laptop sometime down the road, but currently I have an extra PC I'd like to connect up. Is there such a

I have an existing single computer 512K ADSL connection from Orange (formerly Wanadoo and Freeserve) using a Speedtouch modem. Demon's Lack of Customer Support - Again by CJB
As part of my new Demon Domestic 800 broadband package to be connected via a BT landline I now have a Speedtouch 330 modem. However the config. instructions state that I have to use either PPPoE or PPPoA USB drivers, or RFC1483 USB drivers and that this should be confirmed by the respective ISP. Secondly I need the technical 'service name' that I have to use with my userid and password. (I have...

Is it possibile to connect 2 wireless routers wirelessly? by [L.]
I'm trying to rig up a temporary arrangement to connect an older PC to the LAN. Unfortunately, because of its location, I cannot just run a length of CAT5 cable to the router. I have, however, an extra wireless router. I was wondering if -- just as it is possible to daisy chain a second router through Ethernet (with all the caveats that this entails, of

WTD faceplate for combined ethernet and phone by Aosmosis
I have a single CAT5 cable running 30m to another room. Primarly this will be used for the phone, but I may want to use it for a LAN at a later stage. Running another cable or wireless isnt an option, and as long as I do get 10Mbps that will be fine. Does anyone know where I can get a faceplate that has both phone and LAN connected to it? I am assuming that I can use the brown/ brown+white pair...

Use a cable router on ADSL? by Toby Newman
I am sorry if this is a naive question. I have only ever used cable broadband (from NTL) and never used ADSL, so my knowledge of it is thin. I currently own a Belkin Wireless G Router (Part # F5D7230-4) as seen he http://tinyurl.com/6jx32 This connects to my NTL cable modem via a standard networking patch cable (CAT5/RJ45).
