| | How to defrag network drive..? by
Ivor Jones
I've just installed a Maxtor 300GB external Shared Storage Drive, which
connects via Ethernet to the network rather than USB to an individual
computer.
However, it doesn't show up on either Norton Speed Disk or the Disk
Defragmenter built into XP - how do I defrag it..? Is there a utility
which will do it..?

| | View network traffic? by
EsDee
Hi all,
I use a speedtouch 716 wireless modem for my network.
In the router page I can see who is connected, but I need to see how much
traffic they are generating.
Is there a way to make this visible?
Regards,
Marcel

| | Which is the best router for a poor S/N line by
Andrew Sayers
Hi
Subject says it all really. I need to find which router would be best for a poor
line. Initially it sync'd at 250k and my friend got a reliable connection. Recently
he's seeing the router connect at 512k, but it keeps losing sync.
His ISP has run tests and called out BT (his s/n ratio was down to 2 mb!). The BT
engineer called and after a lot of fiddling around has got what he said was the...

| | accessing computer on which Video has died by
crossl@tcd.ie
Hi,
I'm trying to access a computer on which the inbuilt video
connection has died. I've inserted a compatable video card in a PCI
slot but it doesn't fire the monitor when started up. Is is possible to
access the PC via the network connection or serial port from another PC
and get it to fire the new video card?
Thanks and regards,
Liam.

| | netgear: using windows software by
jake
I've had no end of trouble getting a netgear usb adapter to work
properly (i have to keep rebooting the netgear router) and I tried to
use the windows software but netgear kept stopping me -
Anyway I'm now going to try a pci card adapter in another computer and
would like to use the windows zero thingy rather than netgear. Any
advice from anyone who has done it? Can I just put the card in and...

| | Help Please by
Cyberdog
Hi,
I have an Axis 207 IP Camera which is plugged into the ADSL router, and I have
forwarded port 80 for Internet access. I can view it over the LAN, but when I
try to access it over the Internet I am asked for my routers user name and
password. Surely this is not correct, as I have forwarded port 80 should I not
be able to connect straight through the router to the camera.
Thanks.

| | Small RJ45 Socket? by
Dave Farrance
I'm running cables under carpets and want to terminate them at
reasonably secure, but temporary, RJ45 network sockets on the skirting
boards.
No problem with TV coax, which I terminate with a Maplin mini coax
socket which has the cable coming in from the side and is fixed with a
single screw:

Anybody know of something along those lines for RJ45?

| | Netgear Router logs emails - wrong timestamps by
Dave_T
Hi all,
I have a Netgear DG834G ADSL router, that I have configured to send it's
log files out by email every day. All was fine until the first email
after the end of July, where I have only just noticed that the "Sent"
timestamp has suddenly gained an extra month - that is, all emails sent
this month (July) are date stamped August.
The date/time shown through the router admin screen is...

| | BNC to RJ45 by
MS
Hi,
The previous owner of my flat installed a network with wall sockets
suitable to plug a BNC style network connector into.
My hub has only RJ45 connectors. Is there some kind of converter that will
plug into the BNC holes and give me a RJ45 socket? If so, what do I need?
Thanks,

| | RJ45 doubler? by
Trek
I am trying to avoid using yet another ethernet hub. I am sure that I
have seen a RJ45 doubler connector somewhere (just like a telephone one
but slightly bigger) but I can't find one anywhere now. Anyone got any
ideas?
Thanks

| | Extending a Netgear DG834gt wireless network with a repeater by
ukmacposts@creative-industry.co.uk
Anybody doing this successfully? If so what equip (as well as the
router) are you using? I can't see a Netgear repeater product by
Googling although I have seen a bridge/access point for gaming. I
thought a bridge was to join two different networks or at least make
one network work across two channels?
Cheers

| | remote admin by
bootneck
Hi all
Q Please does anyone know of a remote desktop admin program or that can be
set to use dns, that does not use static ip addresses.
I run dns from my broadband router so therefore everytime a machine is
logged on a new ip address is given. I have tried setting the two pcs as
static ip addresses but they then lose the internet.
I used ramin remote admin until I changed to dns, but with...

| | There's a bug BEHIND my LCD monitor! by
Jon
The weirdest thing just happened. I'm watching my screen and theres a
little bug of some sort walking across it so I go to brush it away but
the bug is actually behind the monitor surface!
It's wandering about and I can't seem to get rid of it! How is this
possible? Is the monitor screen not sealed?
It's really annoying me now!

| | AOL and Networking by
Geoff Lane
I hear horror stories about AOL and networking but have no direct
experience.
A friend want to set up a small office network that will allow VPN
access, he has a current dialup access with AOL and doesn't want to
lose his present email address so is considering AOL's broadband.
I've had a brief look at the FAQs on AOL's web page and can't forsee
any major difficulties.

| | Draytek VLAN and Wi-Fi isolation by
James Taylor
I wish to share my ADSL connection with several neighbours. However, I
do not wish them to share my Draytek router's wireless network, so I

router's ethernet ports.
My own and my girlfriend's laptops will connect to the Draytek's
wireless network, but I want to ensure that our network traffic is
isolated from the neighbours, both...

| | Getting AOL dial-up to dial a 9 prefix by
Martin Underwood
A customer has just move to a new office which has a phone system which
requires her to dial a 9 prefix to get an outside line from the socket which
she will use for dial-up modem access.
How do you configure AOL to dial the 9+pause prefix on the front of its
pre-configured access numbers? Is there a way of editing the access number
so as to add the 9 on the front?
