| | Network Problem (Can't access game servers on Steam!) by
Gyuri
Hi. I had this problem ever since I bought this piece of **** router.
It's a "NetworkEverywhere Model: NWR04B" It's not that bad actually. It
shares the connection pretty good as well as everything else except 1
thing. I can't access game servers with it. Servers on Steam won't show
up, I can't create games because people won't be able to join. I tried
configuring it by enabling DMZ and opening...

| | Windows 2000 and WPA by
Robert Sneddon
I'm new to wireless networking. I'm trying to use an older laptop with
a Belkin F5D7010 CardBus wireless card (802.11b) under Windows 2000 to
connect to a classroom wireless LAN which uses WPA authentication and
encryption.
Unfortunately as I understand it W2k has no native support for WPA. The
Belkin driver/configuration utility I can get from their website only
does 128-bit WEP and hence I...

No-one@nowhere.com
I have recently installed the above on a computer. It works well except the
computer has started freezing for no reason at some point when the
screensaver activates.
I have tried everything I know but to no avail. I spoke to one of my
colleagues by chance and discovered that he is having the same problems as
is one of his friends.
It leads me to think that one of the MS updates has a bug...

| | Getting a second laptop to see a network by
Hugo Nebula
I've brought home my new 'works' laptop, but I can't get it to connect
to my home network.
I have a Netgear DG834G wireless router/modem. The wireless access
point is enabled, the SSID is being broadcast, and access control is
off. Security is WPA-PSK.
My own laptop is a Dell Inspiron using the Intel Proset 2200BG
wireless connection. The 'works' laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro,
with the...

| | Loss of wireless connection by
Dave
My friend is running XP HE SP2, ZA Free, and Avast AV on a Dell Dimension
PC. This was networked to a brand new Acer Aspire laptop with a built in
wireless network switch. The router used is also brand new, a 3COM ADSL
modem/router. (Sorry I don't have the model details). The wireless
connection worked fine for a month, but now it's suddenly 'dropped' and
won't connect.
This is only the...

| | Intermittent loss of wireless connection by
Martin Underwood
I'm having intermittent problems with my wireless network connection between
my laptop and my router. The equipment is a WG511T Cardbus adaptor talking
to DG834GT router.
The signal strength is consistently good (at least 60% and often 85% in the
Netgear app), but every so often the TCP connection freezes - as shown by
doing a continuous ping (ping -t) which shows "request timed out" rather...

| | Suppliers of patch panels & mini comms cabinets/racks? by
Conor McKeown
I'm moving house and need to purchase a few patch panels and a mini comms
cabinet / rack to store all this 'invisible' technology.
I'll be doing it all myself and from a kit perspective one of the better
ones I've seen has been from http://www.wiselan.com/. Anyone know any better
or cheaper kits out there?
Anyone else got their home hardwired back to a comms cabinet in a loft or
some...

Can anyone give a couple of tips on how to deal with the above error message
when pinging a wireless router? Set up a bunch of these in the past but this
is causing bother for some reason.
Have set the router up with a length of CAT5, configured DHCP on it and set
up a WPA key. Removed the CAT5 , rebooted and attempted to connect
wirelessly.
Windows finds the access point, prompts for my...

| | ATX Power Supply by
Geoff Lane
Not exactly networking related but I'm sure someone will offer advice.
I want to use an ATX case and PSU to mount some IDE hard drives and
also to supply power but I don't particularly want to instal a
motherboard.
Is there a simple way to get the PSU to power up without a
motherboard.

| | One-way ping by
Martin Underwood
A customer has two PCs, both XP Home, which are both connected wirelessly to
a Netgear router. They can each access the internet (they can browse and can
sign onto AOL). However although PC1 can ping PC2, PC2 cannot ping PC1.
Consequently, file and printer sharing doesn't work because ther isn't a
two-way communication between the PCs.
Both PCs have Norton Internet Security 2005, but on both PCs...

Despite being sat in an office in the UK, I'm unable to access a lot of
(streaming) content on the BBC website from work due to the network
being routed through the US (or that's where we get our external IP from
anyway). Is there an easy way round this? Any (preferably free) UK
based open proxies or anonymisers? The only things I've found still
give me a non-UK IP (megaproxy.com,...
