Hi all
A friend is having trouble with his telewest blueyonder modem which is
connected via ethernet, not USB.
It's the vertical standing black (motorola?) modem with the standby button
on top. His net access has been flakey lately... and Telewest want £1 per
minute for the tech support.
He's running ICS with 2 computers, so i suggested he get a router to replace

| | OT: (Pretty much) Username puzzle by
Dave J.
Hi, not really on topic for this group but I feel more comfortable asking
here than say .Homebuilt (?) or whereever it would be right.
Why, after the replacement of a DVD drive with a harddrive would the
system (Dose XP) suddenly start offering 'Administrator' as the only login
option on the welcome screen?
I didn't want to log in as Admin as my immediate suspicion was a bootup
override of...

I want to schedule the running of a batch file every 30 minutes. How can I
do this? The scheduler in windows wont allow such a regular schedule, with
'once every day' being the minimum. Any ideas anyone?

I have 3 desktops and a laptop all connected through a Belkin Wireless
Modem Router (2 wired - 2 wireless) I have been 'given' another ADSL
Modem Router with 4 wired ports.
Just want to experiment really and connect the 2 together to create an
alleged 'semi secure' and 'highly secure' network. Read a few articles
but cant quite anderstand the concept of 'wiring' the 2 together.

Jon
Afternoon all,
Just got one of these, and I can't get it to play radio stations.
I can access the web on the unit (which proves there is connectivity)
and can view and play all my media files but when I go to internet
radio it waits about 10 seconds and then reports "cannot connect to
internet".
The server software is running on my PC. I am on plusnet broadband

| | Belkin router by
Trevor Wright
This morning I have no internet connection and almost no network. These
are handled by a Belkin FSD 7632-4 router. I disconnected the router
from the adsl phone socket and replaced it with my speedtouch modem
which immediately connected to the internet.
I can't even access the Belkin's configuration page. However all the
lights were on (until I disconnected it from the phone line) and I...

| | Half-dead D-Link router by
Cheeky
Currently using a D-Link DSLG604T combined wireless router and adsl
modem. All of a sudden the wireless has vanished. None of the (3)
computers in the house can find a wireless network although the wired
connetion appears to be working fine. Can anyone suggest what the
problem might be? I've trawled google but can't find anything specific
to this problem.
TIA

| | Router of choice for sharing AOL ADSL connection by
Dr Zoidberg
Some of my relatives have an AOL ADSL connection which they now need to
share.
Can anyone recommend a modem/router combo that works well?
And yes , I am aware of AOL's shortcomings and no there is no chance of them
changing to another provider.
Please try and restrain yourself from a pointless rant on this subject

Wall Plugged Ethernet Bridge Adapter. I am not sure
a] how these devices connect, i.e do you still need a wired router?
b] do you need at least two of these devices?
c] are they any good ?
Thanks

| | headset by

I have an ordinary (non USb/bluetooth) headset that I want to use with my
computer.
It has a jack for audio and one for the mic/recording.
Now I can get the audio to work, but no joy with the mic.
I have changed all the settings in control panel one at a time to help -
boost, no boost, etc. but nothing works. I get no recorded sound form the
mic whatsoever.

| | Wanadoo Livebox and 3rd party appliances by
[ste parker]
A friend is about to sign up to Wanadoo, on the £17.99 p/m option which
seems to include a Livebox. Having seen another friends Livebox a year
or two ago, I think they look awful, and I'd have recommended a
different ISP but that's besides the point. Anyway, will any 3rd party
PCMCIA card happily work with this box (most likely Netgear WG511 or
D-Link G650)?
Also, and sorry for not...

| | Speed Calculation by
Badass Scotsman
Hello,
Im a little confused about Internet Speed versus Network Speed.
My old setup:
Blueyonder Broadband (Fastest Package), 10Mbs
Wireless B Network, D-Link, 22Mbs
Actual wireless signal was shoddy at best, maximum download speed from
reliable servers, 150Kbs.

| | Setting up DNS / ANAME / MX by
Hi,
I have a domain name (with eas**y.co.uk) and they are asking for the
following :
MX records : I think I set that one up ok as the domain name points to the
right server, my setup is ns7.ardns.com and ns8.ardns.com
ANAME records : What is it ? I need to put IP addresses there but I don't
have a clue what to put.
