| | Delay in connecting to network by
ChrisR
I recently had CAT5 cable installed to create two remote network points at
home. The two runs terminate in a single wall box, which is connected by a
short flylead to the router, a Linksys WAG54G (I'm not currently using the
wireless functions). Both runs were tested by the installers.
The oddity is that the desktop computer on one extension can't see the
network connection at all for about...

| | D-Link DI 524 problem by
I have a new DI-525 wireless router but when I try to go configure the
router, I just get a blank webpage. All cables are connected correctly.
When I ping the routers address it comes back as negative, so is it a
problem with the router or something else? Any ideas welcome
TIA

| | Wireless network software by
Fred
I've heard that the networking software in Win XP isn't very good and that
normally with WiFi network cards, in addition to the drivers, you get some
improved networking software. Unfortunately with the bundle bought there
isn't any.
Can anyone recommend any software and an opinion on if it's better than
Windows own?

| | Cat5 mystery by
C. Señor
I just bought a 1m Cat5 cable to connect between my PC and ADSL router to
replace the 20m one. The router and PC are only 1/2 metre apart.
I plugged it in, but the lights on the router and PC don't light up. I
figure it's faulty but before sending it back I decide to make sure it is
faulty I get a hub out and plug the two ends into two nodes but to my
suprise it lights up! I tried from my hub to...

| | NAT and firewalls by
Ben
I have a question about NAT routers.
What protection does a hardware NAT router provide for an internal network
against attacks from the outside world ? (I mean without any firewall
software installed on any PCs, just using the router).
And if they do provide protection, then why do you need to install a
firewall on each machine on the internal network?
Currently I have a USB modem...

| | Networked media player with extra network ports? by
Jon
HI all,
I'm in the market for a networked media player to play music and video
files from my PC through my TV and hifi in the front room. I want to use
cable rather than wireless networking but I have no spare ethernet ports
on my router and I already have one ethernet cable going round to the
back of the TV for my VoIP box, so I want to try and get a media box
with a couple of ethernet...

Hi,
I'm trying to access http://www.cavweb-forums.co.uk/index.php but for the
best part of a week now I'm getting no page loaded. It just looks like the
site is down.
I believe this is the same problem as a month ago and I was told it was a
stored dns problem (error) and there was a work-around, but I don't know the
work-around (some people had use of the site okay).
I tried this from...

| | Swap required: 3-Com ADSL wireless modem/router for wirelesss router without modem by
Adam Lipscombe
Folks,
I have a brand-new 3com wireless ADSL router that I stupidly bought thinking
it would work with a telewest connection. It wont (telewest is cable).
Does anyone want to straight-swap this for a wireless router that doesnt
have a built in modem? That I can plug into the telewest cable modem?
54 g preferred. I am in Bristol.

| | Wanadoo Livebox problem by
Blair
I have connected my laptop XP to Livebox and it is working fine. However
when I tried to connect my Desktop (98SE) I had problems. Once after
altering settings I completed the installation but got no means of starting
Livebox. Does anyone know if this is normal and the second PC takes the
startup through the network?
I really want to start both independently.
