| | simple file server by
Gaz
Getting a bit fed up with the flakyness of using xp as a simple file server
for small xp (and sometimes mixed xp and 98) workgroups.
Typical situation, five to ten XP workstations accessing one specific xp
machine to read and save files to, using network drives.
This setup normally works, but lots of small issues keep popping up, across
a range of computers. One PC will stop accessing the...

Are there any wirelss ADSL modems with built in hard-drives?
Was thinking of getting an external HDD and attaching it to my router but
thinking it would be nice for an all-in-one unit - are there any such
devices out there at the moment?
Thanks

| | laptop can't find networks by
Richard
Hi I've just got a Linksys WAG54GS and after much talking to their support
I think it was working. But when I shut the laptop down and later reopened
it it tells me that 'no wireless networks found in range' and to 'make sure
the wireless switch on the computer is on'.
Previously it found my wireless point plus 3 to 4 others in my vicinity.
I've tried disabling the wireless card and then...

| | Best wired plus wireless router? by
Chris Whelan
My stepson wants to share his cable broadband service between his desktop
and a wireless laptop. I understand he needs a router, but are they
available with both wired and wireless connections? Or will he have to get
a router plus a wireless access point?
Any recommendations as to what to get would be most welcome,
TIA

Hi
I'm new to this and have a question.
If someone else nearby logs onto my wireless router, is there a way of
knowing? Mine slows down every now and again so I suspect that someone is
doing this. Also, can they get into my files or see what I'm looking at.
I'm not bothered about my porn but I am a bit twitchy about my banking.
Thanks

| | Acces home network from remote PC to sync files by
Stingrae
Hi There,
I have been looking for weeks for a solution that will enable me to sync my
work PC up with my home PC (files such as Doc's, pdf's & dwg's). I already
have sync software (active sync) that allows FTP address as sync routes,
therefore I installed Bulletproff FTP server & client, so that I could use
one as an FTP server, however I cannot get them to see each other. It works
over a...

| | Slightly OT: Useable password characters? by
Eric
Hi, sorry if this is slightly off topic, but I am trying to create some
strong passwords for a network and wireless router, but I'm not sure what
characters are allowed for passwords generally. Are there clear rules on
this, or are just any keyboard characters 'fair game' when creating a strong
password?
I will hazard a guess that the following characters are allowed, but are
there any others...

Tim..
Recently my BTYahoo BB service cuts out when its rains or has been wet. It
can take 6 or more hours of being dry overhead for the router be able to
re-sync the service.
I have an over head cable from post to house- about 50meters over a main
road. The phones work normally but are noticably more squelchy / noisy when
its wet.
BT say there is no problem with my line under these circumstances,...

I would like to recommend to everyone an excellent cyber cafe

http://www.cyberleader.net. I've been using it for the whole year 2005
and I must say its great! I switched to it from CyberCafePro, a real
piece of overpriced ****. The reason to buy CyberLeader is that it

ADSL2MUE Some Websites Don't Work !
I have a linksys ADSL modem with ethernet and USB
I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the modem, not firewall or
anything. I can load some websites easily and some just won't load at
all. I really can't see the connection between which websites do work
and which don't. For example: I can get onto the Macromedia website,
but I can't get onto Microsoft.com . ...

| | Bt 2110 "Voyager" possibly? by
Jon
All,
I'm going to attempt a VNC session tonight to help fix a mates PC. He's
behind what I think is a voyager 2110 wireless router. I may need to
remote manage this router.
Assuming I know the WAN IP, what's the port number for remote management
on this unit? Is it the standard setup of http://wan ip:port then
login with username and password?

this.
I have a Cafe and I want to provide broadband access for my customers via my

run 3 computers.
I want to stop people accessing my network but still be able to use the
Internet via my wireless access point. Also, I need my 3 computers to...
