| | Home Networking Problems by
Grey
I have two computers called PC and Laptop. I want a LAN connection between
the two. Both are running XP Pro SP1. I have a crossover cable connected.
The PC has a shared drive M: and the Laptop has a drive F:.
On the PC, I have run the Network Setup Wizard and have established a
connection to the Laptop and using my PC I can download and pull off files
on the laptop F: drive.
So far so good.

| | Win XP Pro, password prompt on shares by
Dr Teeth
My 7 year old son has just discovered that I have set up my network
with full access.
I now want to password protect my shares and cannot find out how to do
it. All PCs run Win XP Pro, 2 out of three are formatted NTFS. NTFS is
not an option for the third PC.
So, how do I ensure that a password prompt appears whenever he tries
to access another PC? It sometimes happens but I don't know why.

Hi,
I have a laptop running XP-Home SP2, all updates installed. It's connected
to a WLAN provided by two Linksys WRT54G routers running in WDS.
When I switch the laptop on and log in (in my name) the fan runs and hot air
blows out the back. Windows Task Manager Processes shows loads of
processes running (I've shut down all the unnecessary ones by checking on
the web which ones are safe...

Hi
I have recently tried to set up a shared internet connection on my wife's
laptop, a Dell Inspiron 6000. All I want to do is have the laptop share the
internet connection; no file sharing, printer sharing, game or application
sharing, etc; just so my wife can use the web for her work in the living
room while I surf in the kitchen. I have a wired connection from my PC to my

| | Can't log onto XPPro after creating Workgroup by
karlengel@excite.com
I was following instructions to network my wife's XP Pro laptop and my
W98SE desktop and have possibly created a big problem. I was told to
make the Workgroup name on both computers the same and create a User on
my computer with the same name & password as my wife's.
So I looked to see the Workgroup name on hers, saw it was set to a
domain, changed it to a workgroup and gave it a name - and...

Simon
My setup - I have a Linksys NSLU2 (slug) storage hub connected to 2 USB
hard drives. I've stored all my music on there and listen to the music
through ITunes on my laptop over a wireless network.
I'd like to be able to listen to all this music while I'm at work. What
is the easiest way to acheive this? If I have ITunes installed on my
work PC, can I just set the library location to be my home...

Well I have gone over to NTL Broadband after years of dial-up.
My second comp is an old Pentium II PB box running 98SE but it works
well enough for my needs.
Can I get my reserve machine online without buying expensive equipment
or fiddling about too much. It does not have LAN. All I used to do
with the dial up modem was to connect it to the old machine when
needed.

I've got a few PC's on a LAN (all XP Pro)
I've managed to set up RDP on the server and can access it no problem from
outside my LAN.
I tried setting it up on my PC but I can't connect to it.
If I use RDP from a PC on the LAN I can access my PC but only by entering my
account name as apposed to entering my ip address.
That suggests to me that my router is somehow blocking the request when it...
