I'm trying to backup the second computer to a partition on the first computer using XP Pro on both via a switch. The internet connection is via the first computer and it works. When I try to write the backup file to the first computer it tells me that I don't have the right privileges. I checked in my power user book but it only talks about auditing privileges - not setting them. Can anybody...

Netgear WGT624V2 firmware question by Len Cuff
I am having a few problems with this router since my son started using an XBOX360 (or it's just a very odd coincidence!). Anyway the router will work fine (wired ports) and then start losing the ISP connection a few times in rapid succession and then start working fine again? I thought maybe I needed a firmware update so I opted for the Router Upgrade option and clicked on the check button....

networking a printer (idiot question?) by Robert_Cathos
sorry if this is a dumb question..... I have a pc wired to a Linksys wireless broadband router & two other pcs that connect wirelessly to this, for internet access. I have a printer connected by usb to the first pc. If I connect the printer instead to a spare socket on the router, is it then possible for the other pcs to share the printer? If so, can anyone suggest a website that provides...

An ADSL Question - Simple I think by
I've just been round at a mate who is converting from dial up to ADSL, I've set up ADSL here with no issue but the first step failed at his location so I want to ask an idiot style question. His new modem is not indicating detection of ADSL on the BT line, the ISP swears the BT have enabled it now but when I unplugged his microfilter and plugged a phone directly into the wall socket I could...

Accessing remote PC by Steven Campbell
I have shoehorned an old PC into a cupboard that other PC's on my home network can access files from. I want to be able to check how much space I have left on the drives but can only get access to the files on the drives. As I said, the PC is shoehorned into a cupboard with virtually no space. I know the easiest way would be to connect it to a monitor and do it that way but is there anything...

Quite new and need help on email, MX record and domain names by Adrian Hodgson
I hope this is on topic for this group. I am trying to understand and learn about networking by installing and using a home network connected to the Internet via a permenant ADSL connection. This runs through a Firewall to keep out the hackers and so far I have succeeded to get all internal computers to access the internet, access emails via an account provided by my ISP.

Installing WInXP Pro over home edition by Andrew Sayers
My laptop is running XP Home SP2, but I'd like to upgrade it to Pro so that I can log it into the domain at work. The lazy part of me says try installing Pro over home, to save all the hassle of re-installing everything, but I'm wondering whether I'll end up having more problems by doing this. Has anyone tried it, and was it successful?

Playing games wireless network by R D S
I used to play games over the network with my son, Worms, Doom etc. 2 PC's & a hub. Now I have a laptop and it wont work with my PC, laptop and wireless router. I read somewhere I need to set up port forwarding, is this likely to be correct before I go through the headache. Are there drawbacks, TIA,

Erratic network by David W Allen
I have a desktop and laptop wirelessly networked through an access point - all hardware produced by Belkin. The signal strength varies between very good , through good to low and then no signal at all. These variations can occur during a one minute spell, which does not make it very easy to work consistently, and is certainly hair tearing!. Can any subscriber offer a reason and a cure?
