| | Here's a long shot for you (Novell Netware) by
Linker3000
Hi networking types...
Does anyone 'in the trade' remember when Novell gave away promotional
2-user licensed copies of Netware 4.1 (4.11?) on CD? As a trainer and
dealer-based techy I used to have tons of copies floating around but,
alas no longer (believe me, I have checked!!).
I have a situation where a VERY old Netware 3.12 server has died and the
original install disks are long gone....

Broadband and an ADSL connection through Toucansurf

| | Cheap NAs solutions by
Simon Finnigan
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a nice simple and cheap way to setup a NAS on my home
network. Ideally 'd like 2 little boxes to plug into the network, each of
which will take a pair of 300 gig IDE hard drives. Each box would use these
disks to poduce a single 600 gig volume, accessible over the network without
installing any additional software on the PC's. One of these boxes would be
used...

| | Bandwith control with a home wireless network. How? by
CorSec
Hi
Long story I know but please read -
After building and installing two computers for a friend, I installed a
wireless network (about 8 months ago) with a Linksys WAG54G DSL router and
Gigabyte 802.11g compatible wireless adapter (it came with the M/B).
After trolling the internet and newsgroups for hours on end, I still don't
have an answer.
The network works great except for one big problem,...

| | Help Request XP to Win98 by
Clive Wallis
Hi,
I have been trying to network an XP (home) system with a Win98SE
system, using an ethernet connection. So far I've only had partial success.
I can see the XP machine in 98's Network Neighbourhood, and can transfer
files in both directions using 98's keyboard.
At the XP terminal, I can't access the 98 machine, and XP says that I
don't have permission.

Steve Reeves
Hi All,
My PC is about to breed and so I have decided to install a wireless
network at home. I pretty much understand what needs to happen and have
spent this afternoon trying to work out the best kit I can buy for my
purposes. I'd appreciate any advice, web pages or FAQs if they are
available.
I need to network 2 PCs and Printer with ASDL broadband. PC1 (the new
one) will be in the same...

| | Hosting an FTP server by
Chris Watts
What risks are there in setting up an FTP server on a home network?
The files are held on a network attached disk (NAS), running (I think)
Unix/Linux software. Folders other than those intended for ftp access are
held on the same device but the server only provides access to the ftp area
on not to these folders..
The router is set to direct all ftp access to the NAS and the computers on
the...

| | Remote access to NAS by
Simon
I hope this is the right group to ask...
I have an external hard disk attached to a Linksys NSLU2 network
storage device. I want to give access to certain folders on the disk
over the internet. I can forward the NSLU2's IP local IP address
through port 80 of my internet IP address. This gives me remote access
to the NSLU2 web page and I can navigate to the correct folders from
there. That's fine...

| | Remote access to network share - VPN? by
Stroller
Hi there,
I work as a PC doctor to home office & small business & one of my
customers wants to be able to access a Windows XP network share when
away from his office. I reckon I'm generally pretty clueful but
unfortunately in my customer-base there's not very much demand for this
sort of thing, so I don't have any experience of it.
The files that the bloke wants to access are the data files...

| | *99# on Motorola Razor V3 by
Geoff Lane
Recently, with the help of this group I got my Sony Ericsson Z600
connecting to GPRS using DUN on my laptop and the *99# method.
Ultimately on my phone *98*3# worked fine.
I'm now trying to get my daughter's new Motorola Razor V3 to connect
using the same method.
I've tried various permutations substituting 3 with 2,1 and leaving it
out altogether, I've put in extra * but each attempt fails.

Okay...at the moment I have a PC wired to a modem/router on ADSL. All is
fine. I have recently purchased a WAP for use with my Nintendo DS. The set
up I want is to keep the PC wired to the router and have the WAP, wired to
the router, to be used exclusively for my DS. I will not be connecting to my
router wirelessly with my PC.
Something like this

| | WiFi, WPA and DHCP by
Clint Sharp
Just bought a BT Voyager router, it works fine on the wired portion of
the network, everything gets an IP address and can access the 'net.
On the wireless side, it works as well, that is, right up to the point
where I try to use WPA-PSK, I can connect to the network but my laptop
never gets an IP address via DHCP, if I assign a static address and use
WPA-PSK it works fine, thereby proving, to...

| | usb firewire cables and chips by
Let me Think
I have just purchased a Sony camcorder and I see its has two download
methods
USB (which is included and I have a USB enabled PC)
The other is Firewire (I Link). People have told me that the Firewire
connection will give me better picture quality because firewire is faster
and does not compress the data. I was under the impression that both
firewire and USB 2 are around 400MB/s and I don't...
