Does anyone know how "remote access" and the firewall interact on a Zyxel 660H by tinnews@isbd.co.uk
I'm trying to get remote management to work on my Zyxel 660H, without much success at the moment. Remote management is the set up to allow configuration of the 660H from outside the LAN. It's simple enough to set the "Remote management" menu to allow access from outside, it defaults to LAN but you can toggle through LAN, WAN, All and None. So, I've set it to "All" for the moment to get it...

HomePlug by hzatph
I am thinking about buying HomePlus networking to cover our home - we have a large old house and the wireless is very poor in many places. We have a single incoming electricity supply through a single meter. The power then split into two consumer units each of which feeds several ring mains protected by RCDs. My question is whether the Homeplug product is likely to connect successfully through...

8P8C network coupler query by Reece Bythell
Hello everyone I'm in the middle of a loft conversion, and I'm going to be moving my computer from my bedroom further upstairs. The computer in the bedroom is connected to my router downstairs via a 10m ethernet crossover cable (a legacy from when I used to connect two PCs together and since it works with the clever routers these days I've left it there!). Now - I'm moving the computer upstairs...

IN FOR THE KILL: RSPB led slaughter of ruddy ducks in Wigan cost us £1.4m by Old Codger
As most of us know it was the RSPB who pushed the EU into taking action against ruddy ducks. They *claimed* it was to protect the Spanish white headed duck and that the ruddy ducks were the cause of WHD decline. This was a blatant lie as can be seen here http://tinyurl.com/396s4t http://tinyurl.com/34pvoo So far the Europe wide slaughter of ruddy ducks has cost us in excess

Idle question by Dave J.
Can anyone offer an explanation for the ages-back decision to use two different pin alignments for CAT-5/RJ45 networking plugs/sockets? You know the way you need a crossover when the alignments are identical and a straight through when they're mirrored? Could it have been as simple as someone just imagining that all cables would be straight-throughs because no one would deviate from the...

Prestige 643 router/modem by Dave J.
Does anyone know where I could find a detailed manual for the Prestige 643 router/modem? It's quite an old model (though it happily does 6Mbit) with quite a complex command line interface that has much more flexibility than going via http. For a start, I was only able to input my ISP username via the telnet interface, the web page restricted the maximum length too severely for it to fit,...

Sea Shepherd E-Newsletter Operation Migaloo a Success- 500 Whales Saved! 11 by ( _ /)
March 13, 2008 11 Dear D, www.seashepherd.org As the whaling season draws to a close, so does our Whale Defense Campaign, Operation Migaloo. After numerous confrontations with the Japanese whalers over the course of many weeks, we were able to keep the spot light on Japan's illegal whaling program and in so doing, saved nearly 500 whales from their deadly harpoons. As our...
