| | Finding DNS servers for Virginmedia in DG834G? by
Jansen
I need to know what the DNS servers are for Virginmedia (ex NTL). The
router is set up to get the DNS servers automatically, but that is no good
as I need to know what they are. Any ideas how I can find out what they
are, either from the router or from within Windows XP Pro? Thanks a lot.

| | aol etc by
Trevor Wright
My daughter lives in a basement flat.
Her landlord says she can connect to his broadband "through a wire." I
presume he means he will network her to his computer (he lives
upstairs). I presume this would be through a router.
His connection is via AOL.
If my daughter's laptop is wired to his AOL connection through a router,
can she then use non-AOL software (ie Internet Explorer) for the...

| | Dell D600 Lost Network Connection by
strictlyleeds@gmail.com
Hi,
I have a Dell D600 from work. There was an icon in "Network
Connections" saying "Local Area Connection 2, Disabled, Cisco Systems
VPN Adapter" the other (from memory) was the laptops "proper" network
connection.
When I went into Device Manager, the "proper" network connection
seemed to have an error (yellow mark), I updated it, and it was ok. I
then enabled the Cisco Systems VPN Adapter, it...

| | Wireless router for 3G usb modem ? by
Al
Hi,
I would like to share a usb 3G Mobile Data modem via a wireless home
network. Has anyone any ideas for the hardware as most wireless
routers only allow braodband connection via ADSL ?
I know it could be done with a PC running as a router but I would like
something a bit simpler and less bulky.

| | RM Laptop PSU by
Bernard Peek
I've just acquired a second-hand Research Machines CY25 laptop with a
duff external power-supply. The polarity isn't documented on the box or
in the manual. Can anyone confirm whether the polarity is the same as is
used by Toshiba laptops. I know the voltage is the same.

| | Wireless problem by
Craig T
I've only got a few details, but if anyone could give me some pointers I'd
be grateful.
My cousin is with Talk Talk broadband, using a Huawei ADSL router/access
point provided by them. Her main PC runs WinXP HE, as does her Samsung R20
laptop with built in wireless connection.
When we first attempted to set up the wireless network, the router was
broadcasting a signal with the SSID...

| | Dropped Packet Statistics by
Geoff Lane
I am trying to trace a slight network problem and am wondering as to
what is the best statistic to look at.
My router adsl information page refers to corrected and uncorrected
blocks; this is not a term I am familiar with.
What should I be looking at in relation to dropped packets as I believe
this has an effect on overall performance.

| | Why won't router respond? by
Eddy
I've been slaving on this one for weeks and just haven't been able to
solve it. If anyone can shed light on any of the following, I would be
most grateful.
We want two computers to be able to access our broadband connection at
the same time.
On the laptop we need to use the wireless connection
The desktop computer has no wireless connection but an ethernet cable
connection.

| | OT? Network A/V Receiver or Media Bridge Opinions by
TVeblen
First off- if there is a better group to post this to, please let me know.
I am preparing to network my home A/V system with my current wired/wireless
home computer network in order to play music and video from the hard drive
as well as streaming content from the web. There have been "Media Bridges"
available for a while now (ex: Linksys WMB54G), but recently a lot of high
end A/V receivers...

Anyone know any agencies or companies that use sub-contractors for
structured cabling. I've just come to the end of my contract after
completing 2000 outlets over 5 floors in Sheffield & am looking for new
work. Work to be preferably within travelling distance of Sheffield but
for the right contract anywhere in the UK would be acceptable.

| | "Local access only"!! by
Srt
Hi,
Any ideas as to why I suddenly have this need to keep resetting the network
adapter via network sharing? (I am sure its associated here) I have just
changed ISP and their supplied router is both wireless and Ethernet. My
previous was Ethernet only. I only use Ethernet at the moment but network
sharing keeps identifying two networks. I cant merge or delete as that
option is greyed out!! I am...

| | Broadcom 11b XP Problem - I think by
Geoff Lane
I've got a HP Pavilion laptop with XP Home. The computer has an inbuilt
Broadcom 11b wifi.
It is dual boot with one XP partition for a games setup and the other
for general use.
I had a power problem a couple of days back which caused an unintended
shutdown and since then, one one partition only, I have had a problem
with my network connectivity.

| | D Link drops connection by
Pete
Hi
I had a perfectly good wired broadband internet connection until I installed
a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless router.
I connected the router to my modem and connected the PC's ethernet card to
the router, as per the instructions. The 'wired' signal therefore went from
the cable modem, into the router, then into my PC, so my PC still had a
wired connection, albeit via the router

Back in early January I posted an enquiry about a problem with ethernet
connections on my Linksys WAG54G http://tinyurl.com/2jwd36
One message suggested I may still be within the guaranty period, I
hadn't even given this a thought as it was over two years old.
It was in fact 2years 9months old.
A freephone call to Linksys confirmed in was still under warranty, a

| | Trying to set up Dlink wireless print server by
Mortimer
I'm banging my head against a brick wall trying to set up a Dlink DP-G310
print server. This has an Ethernet and a wireless input from a router and
then a USB port for driving a printer.
The manual that comes with the print server says it comes pre-configured to
use an IP address of 192.168.0.10 and describes how to give a PC a temporary
static IP in the same subnet so the PC can access the...
